hi everyone from vancouver! i have had an EOS gasoline 2 litre 200 H.P. (the only model they are bringing into Canada) since Christmas. as enthusiastic as i am, i have driven VW TDI's for years, and have been shocked at the poor economy of this motor. in the city i am getting about 430 K to a tank (that's about 270 miles). what is everyone else's experience?

i also want to know if anyone has gotten a hitch for a bike rack? they are telling me in vancouyver that a hitch has not as yet come out for the car and that i have to have it custom made at great expense. with the poor fuel economy my bike was looking better all the time until i learnt what it would cost for the rack!!

That mpg figure is just about exactly what I get from my 2.0 T-FSI too. Around 270 miles around town, which equates to abt 26 mpg.

On a long run it is abt 32/34 depending on the speed I can keep up, but on slower country roads it can go up to 36/38.

Town is a killer though, esp if your runs are short then the engine never warms up sufficiently for the average to climb over 20!

Don't know abt the bike rack but if I were you I wouldn't have one custom-made; it can only be a matter of a (short) time before one comes out. Type 'VW Eos Accessories' into Google and see what you get; there are quite a few sites with plenty of bits and bobs and would be surprised if bike racks are not there.

You could try:

They advertise 41 different bike racks for VW Eos... but looking at them not sure any would actually fit an Eos - they seem to be for any VW except the Eos...

The only which might fit is a swing-away one which looks like it fits on to a tow-bar. As far as I know VW offer a dealer-fit towbar for the Eos, so that might work.

I am getting about 23-24 mpg in mine driving in the city...haven't really got out on the interstate yet to see what I will get there.

But your gallons aren't as big as ours are they (thought everything in the US was bigger??) so that probably equates exactly to the 26 I'm getting in the city!

According to this conversion calculator U.S. gallon is slightly bigger than U.K. gallon...unless I'm reading this wrong.

Gallons (U.S.) Litres Gallons (U.K.)
0.50 1.89 0.42
1.00 3.79 0.83

2.00 7.57 1.67

Thought it was a bit odd if yours were smaller than ours!

So your mpg is not very good then. You wearing lead boots?! Or you just like beating the guys away from the lights?!

LOL, I think the mileage is great for here...course I had a GMC Envoy before this so didn't take much to be better.

I think that our octane ratings are lower than yours as well so that might have something to do with it also.

I believe it's mostly a different way of working it out, like maybe add three to get the equivalent UK figure. But there might be a real diff as well

US to UK gallon conversion

All,

The UK gallon IS bigger than the US one !

The conversions are :-

1 UK gallon = 1.200950 US gallons.

1 UK gallon = 4.546 litres

1 US gallon = 3.785 litres

hi again. i started all this with my initial query regarding whether others were getting my disappointing mileage results. when i posted yesterday i had this nightmere that everyone would report back based upon miles, kilometers, U.S. gallons, litres, and U.K. gallons (which i assume is the Imperial gallon).

so, instead of forcing all of us to spend hours sweating over mathematics, i would appreciate if people would just report the number of miles or kilometers that they are receiving to the tank. we all presumably have the same tank size, and unless i am mistaken we all drive "miles" or "kilometers".

and thanks for the leads about the bike rack. i will follow that up and report back for those that might be interested.

You sure US miles are the same as UK ones?!

Well must say that's what I always thought but Wanda seemed to have all the conversion factors.. Wonder where she got those?

Well I got the first conversions from:

but then went to another site (http://www.day-tripper.net/infoconversions.html#Anchorconversion) and got different answers:

Gallons US = 1
Gallons UK = 0.8327

Anyway to answer the original question I am getting about 315 miles to a tank of gas in city driving...

I'm at around 350 miles a tank (2.0T gas) with mixed city/country driving.

I get between 270 and 370 miles on a tank, depending on whether it's all city or all country driving or a mixture of both.

Gasoline Mileage

Hi Duck,

I have the same model as you, 2.0 L Turbo, but most of my driving is either in the country or majoe highwasand mileage has been excellent. I usually get about 36 mpg or close to 600 kms per tank of gas. Guess it pays to to be retired and live in the "boonies"!
