Apparently there is a report in the quality German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport about the replacement for the Beetle in 2012. A VW spokesman has described the report as "speculation".

The interesting bit is at the end, where the magazine also reports that "VW was mulling plans to end production of the Eos convertible that is fitted with a foldable steel roof". A VW spokesman refused to comment.

On further investigation it seems VW will re-introduce a soft-top Golf Convertible in 2010/11 and run the 2 models in parallel until 2012, when Eos production will cease.

There will be no direct replacement - the Golf Convertible will effectively have replaced it plus there'll be the new Beetle Cabrio. VW don't want to be making 3 similar-sized convertibles!

That's tragic news! :( I'm already contemplating the spec for my 2009/10 EOS when I get around to replace my current one.

Any chance the Eos might be a kind of collectors car like the old air cooled stuff of years gone by?

Almost certainly in 20/30 years time since they will only ever be made in relatively small numbers and retractable hardtops may be a relic of the past by then?!

Aren't the 08s same as 07s regarding the front grille? Silver on Sport/V6 models - in UK anyway - black on the others?
