On page 122 in my '08 Eos manual, it shows the actual gear in use while in D or Drive mode. On my vehicle, this indication does not appear as shown in the manual. My Eos is a US model. Is the manual in error about this feature or do I have a malfuntion? If I do shift into manual, I see the actual gear in use as per page 122.

I have 2007 Eos 2.0T with 6 spd DSG transmission. I get the gear 1-6 indication in the MFD.

I guess I wasn't very clear. In manual, I do get 1-6 indications in the MFD. It's while I'm in Drive or (D), that I don't see the number of the gear I'm presently in. The manual on page 122 clearly shows that I should "see" the gear I'm presently in down in the lower right hand corner of the MFD.

I see the gear # with the shift lever in D or S regardless of if I have engaged the +/- manual shift mode and regardless of if I have engaged the steering wheel toggle shifters.

I have a early 2007 EoS 2.0T with DSG transmission, Sport package, 18" wheels.

The last part of the 2007 Model Year 2.0T series VIN # is around 33,000.

I noticed you have an 2008 model, it is possible that VW changed the display software for the 2008 model year.

Thanks for the info. I suppose the indicator may have changed with the '08. Next time I'm at the dealer, I'll ask them. The operating manual clearly has '08 on the front cover.

Anyone out there with an '08 that can confirm if the gear in operation shows in the lower right hand corner while in Drive mode? See image below. In my Eos, the 4 would not be in the corner or no other number either.

I just have the basic display and mine does show it! If you don't mind, what is your chassis number (just so we can see where it stands in the production line..... Don't put the real one, just round it down to the nearest 1000... For example, if yours ends in 0013243, then just put 13240 or 13200 or something... Also, in the middle, does it say 1F7Z? In the US the Base Eos had the half height MFD but also came with the manual trans. Obviously the shift indicator was not needed. There also was no compass either. There was some consternation here as it was listed on the window sticker on the car but not installed. The end result was that VW admitted to a printing error and some of the affected owners got rebates or credits. To get the full MFD you needed to order the Lux, Sport, or V6 models with DSG. The shift indicator was active then. You could get the Sport with a standard trans and I'm guessing they probably shut the shift indicator off though I have personally seen one like this. There was also a 2.0
model just above the base which could be had with DSG but I can't tell which MFD was installed as I have not seen one equipped this way. This info is for 2007 as in 2008 they changed the model lineup and option lists. Also if you ordered tha nav system you got the full MFD which if I remember displayed some of the nav info.

As I said at the start of this thread, mine is a US '08 Lux with the full MFD. I would prefer having it like the display in the manual as shown above.

I'm wondering if you only get this gear indication in the 3.2 model? Next time I stop by the dealer, I'll try to remember to ask them.

Seems like there should be a few other US readers who could tell their vehicle status as to this indicator.

Well -- I have an '08 US Lux as well. It is only 2 weeks old. Built Sept. '08. I could have sworn I saw the number there, but I haven't seen it since I thought to look again several days ago. At any rate, I called my dealer. The service manager seemed unaware of what I was even describing. He asked my salesman who said he has stopped showing that feature to buyers/new owners since it seems to not be there any more. (Funny, I could swear he pointed it out to me.) The mechanics said they haven't seen it on the Eos in quite some time. I have no answer, and I have no gear number. End of story for now.

You mean Dealers in the US can actually answer questions like that? Most of them here couldn't even tell you how many wheels a car has...

Yes it does show the gear engaged in 08 models

see title. My EOS (see footer for details) is 08 and does have a red LED display that shows either the automatic gear position (D M R etc) AND the curent gear engaged on lower right as on your picture, or shows all gears 6 5 4 3 2 1 with a square around the currently selecte one, when semi-automatic mode is engaged.
Hope this clarifies

That's interesting...

Re the post above, it appears that this indication does show in the European models. So, I wonder why I don't see it in my MFD in my '08 Lux edition?

How about a little more "votes" from US owners as to whether their '08 vehicles show the current gear indication in the auto transmission mode?

I'm wondering if I just have a peanut light out in my MFD where the gear indicator is supposed to be according to my Eos manual.

From what I see in another Eos forum, US Eos' for 2008 have this change where the gear number at the right does not appear in "D". Whether this is a program change or new MFD computer has yet to be determined. Also the reason for this change is not known.

Info from dealer...

Today I stopped by my VW dealer and spoke with the service manager. HE said that there was some kind of problem with the clock in the MFD. The fix was to flash the bios and when they did that, the indicator in question disappeared. He said initially the dealer was "flashing" the cars, but now they come from VW with the flash done at the factory.

Seems to me if this is the case, VW could correct their software to "reconnect" this reading sometime in the future. While this info certainly is not critical, it would be nice to have just to see what gear you're in while in automatic mode. On the other hand, the way it is now is just like almost all other cars with automatic transmissions.

So, I guess that's the way it is folks.

SiJ2000, mine ends in 311** and built 01/07. No 1F7Z but I do have a 1F97. My car sat on the dealer lot for a bit before we bought it so maybe they did the flash that Eos_up mentioned.
