Getting EOS Lux delivery next week, should I worry about the recall?

Hi, All, I am waiting for my '09 EOS Lux Black/Beige delivered next week. I was really excited over it, until I heard about the DSG sensor recall yesterday. From what I have read so far, it was really unsafe when the tranny just popped into neutral without warning. How wide spread is this problem? If it is less than 1% I figure I can take the chances, given that the recall may just fix it once for all. But if it is significantly more than that, I don't think I can trust VW enough to believe that this recall will fix all known and potential DSG safety issues.

Besides, the resale value will take it hit if this is a wide spread problem. I am really having a second thought. (I guess I'll just lose the $500 deposit, but I have been drooling over EOS for a while.)

Also, do I need to insist dealers performing recall service before taking delivery? I called a couple of dealers and the VW customer line, they seemed to say the details are still to be hashed out in the next few weeks. BTW, the VW customer service essentially told me "yeah it is safe to drive the vehicle, just that if you have this (Flash of Death) problem, call our road-side assistance..." LOL I don't think I'll have time to call road-side assistance when a 18 wheeler is approaching me fast.

I'd like to hear all your opinions. Thanks!

The more I read all the worries about this DSG temp sensor recall, the more I'm reminded of the over reaction of the media to "swine" (h1N1) flu. I'm not trying to minimize either problem....just after reading 3 or 4 threads with grave concern about the recall I'm thinking it shouldn't be the demise of the whole car.

I'm still taking delivery on my '09 Black/Cornsilk Lux. I have full confidence the replaced temperature sensor will remedy the problem. My only concern is waiting on the part to come.
Good to know, Tim. Yesterday's VW announcement http://media.vw.com/index.php?s=43&item=491 certainly helps.

Wow - VW must really be worried about the DSG issues affecting sales, if they're now giving a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty on the transmission. That's certainly good news for you Eos folks with the DSG, or at least the Eos owners in the States.

Wow... good to know about the 10 year warranty on the DSG.
