Good and Bad points of the Eos

I am collecting an Icelandic Grey Eos TDI 2.0 Diesel Turbo with DSG (auto transmission) tomorrow Sun 30 Mar 08; and should get a lot of Vitamin D.

To me, the Eos represents unrivalled value for a hard top convertible and coupe with a sunroof. I think its other good points include:

Quality interior (material and fit); Exceeds Astra Twintop by far; Stops short of BMW & Mercedes-Benz;
DSG - Slick 6 speed auto transmission; Beats the new Mercedes C Class entry level models of 5 speed autos;
Relatively quiet and frugal diesel engine; Much quieter than a Merc C220 CDI;
Pretty looking front; Not as good looking as a BMW 3 series convertible, but is half its price (Australian pricing is awkward when compared to the US and the UK).

Its bad points include:

Not great looking backside and side profile
Front wheel drive

What do other Eos owners who have had the car for some time think?

I really don't have too many negatives. I think the paint and glass may be to soft in that flying grit seems to leave marks. The glove box and console box could have more space. it would have been nice if bluetooth would have been built in so the button in the sterring wheel would serve as something other than decoration. The interface is now available here through VW but is more than $300 USD uninstalled, On the other hand the car is a blast to drive. The engine generates sufficient power to create a wheelspin issue.What can I say about that top! A great pleasure when it is down and I can still put stuff in the trunk. When I can't put the top down, there is the sunroof to let in light so the interior feels airy. Fuel mileage is better than I expected. The DynAudio option has lived up to most of the hype although it could have used some midrange speakers in the rear. Handling and ride with the Sport package has been better than I expected. My biggest gripe lies with VW and how they package the car. In the US we weren't permitted to order the Xenon lights lights unless we ordered the 3.2. The option package/ model lineup changed between the 07 and 08 models and is to change again for the 09 models. The 3.2 disappears but we may now be able to get Xenons as an option. I love my Eos but not so much VW and their bizarre logic.

Good and Bad points of the Eos (3)

Good points:

1. I am getting used to its looks - it grows on you.
2. The standard radio is quite good with many features including gala -music becomes louder when car speeds up.
3. Wind in the hair and safety of a hardtop are great.

Bad points:

1. I can't program the radio stations on the steering wheel audio control. Help....
2. I think there is a rattle at the back somewhere (when roof is up); cannot pinpoint where yet.

I have had the Eos for about 2 weeks now.

Rattle from back common problem. VW are going to have another attempt to fix mine next week. Just keep driving with the roof down. Oh that's right, it has rained lots in Sydney this summer. At least you should have plenty of nice days during winter and spring.
LIKES
DSG and the sport option-even though I like to shift-it flys if you use sport and the gas pedal
style-I thought it was a little bland, but I think it will hold it looks and not get dated so easily
trunk space with top down-there is still some(can't have it all-it just kills me that some reviewers knock it because of lack of trunk space with the top down)
the top
the sun roof
fuel mileage we got 35 mpg on a 500 mile trip once -easily get 32 and 33
It fits-I'm about 6'3" and many cars that have a sun roof have no head room, it also has ample leg room-many sports cars are too small
It is comfortable
Telescopic wheel
DISLIKES
transmission allows rollback
the paint is very easy to scratchI think some laid a jacket on the hood and it slid down, the zipper scratched the paint in many places, just the weight of a very light windbreaker

Has anyone mentioned that this is a car that was designed as a top-downer - yet the nav screen and information box are mounted so that they're unreadable in sunlight. You would think they would have taken that into consideration. :(

Not a problem us BRITs are faced with the sun rarely shines here - obviously designed for the English market!!!!!

I thought the same as you until I just adjusted the contrast on the screen. I can now see it clearly in the very bright Provence sunshine.
Radio Programming (3)

Bad point:

Audio on steering wheel cannot be programmed to the stations you want. Is this a VW software glitch?
