My tires are the Goodyear LS 2, a standard touring tire. I went to tirerack.com to look at what others thought and it ranked 24 out of 25 in that category. With over 2.5 million miles included in the report I felt like people knew what they were talking about.

On the other hand I used tirerack before, researched a tire and bought it for our Audi A6. Wonderful car, had sport suspension, it drove so poorly with the new tires Yokohama AVID TRZ, we it felt like it was floating, like you had to pay extreme attention and the car would not be forgiving of any mistake.

So now I don't know what to think. The current tires should get great mileage but not sure about rain and light snow. So far they are quiet and handle well. Just wondering about the winter, since we gave up AWD for FWD.

Worked out OK though we traded it for the Eos.

The LS2 tires are not very well liked by most people who own them. My Eos came with Michelins which I think have done reasonably well but is not top rated. They are also among the most expensive. For a while there was info for Yokohama R520 tires if I remember correctly that was well received and well reviewed as well as reasonably priced. There was one of the Bridgestones that was very good. Bridgestone had something called Ice-T (or Blizzak) which was part of the tire compound and worked pretty decent in wet driving. I think Eos come with some type of Cooper tires, but you will have to check them at the VW dealer for type. That is for 17". I think they still may be using Pirelli tires for 18". If you get a lot of snow where you are, you may want to get some snowtires and basic steel wheels all of which is available at Tire Rack. I've bought tires at Discount Tire for my SUV and have happy with the tires and the tire dealer.

Thanks, I have a set of winter tires and rims for the truck and they are blizzaks. I swear by them. My truck is rear wheel drive. I was coming back from Iowa last year and got behind a snow storm. The last 40 miles were on country roads and they were icy. I was pulling a horse trailer as well. Would never never want to do it again but I made it with no problems. The blizzaks have very soft rubber with many sipes, little slits, and feel soft when driving, but they are for winter and do what they are designed to do. I may just go with winter tires and then use performance/touring when the weather breaks.

Because different parts of the world get different brands of tires there can be no universal recommended brands. But I have heard that in Europe Gislaved and Nokian are good.
