...I heard someone swear out at me yesterday as he drove past...I don't think it was my driving style he was probably just jealous of the eos :p

Simon
Highly unlikely anyone would be jealous !
If it was Clarkson he thinks your car is crap anyway.

Sunday Times yesterday he gave 2 out of 5 for the EOS.
Must say I agree with him on 2 of his points...........Overpriced and a very harsh ride!.

The ride on my 17" Westwoods isn't harsh. You must have Chicagos?

Price is higher than Vauxhalls, Renaults etc, but is it overpriced?

Journalists have a habit of simply comparing one car of a certain size with another of a certain size then if one costs more saying it's too expensive.

I see the VW as better quality, however, and worth the extra. You could compare a Gieves and Hawkes suit with one from M & S which is the same size, but the prices will be vastly different for a reason..

Another thing is that if you are in business the market price of a product is what someone will pay for it, not necessarily what others cost. You paid didn't you? There's a waiting list stretching into months isn't there? So why would VW sell it for less?

He has 17" avignons I believe.
Can't say I have any problems with harsh riding with my 18"s, but maybe this maybe more due to the comparison with the stiffened sports susp (otherwise known as a back breaker!), on my other car.
Looking forward to your cars 1st birthday Neh321? Can't believe my road tax renewal just come through, time flies when having fun eh?

Yes, my tax renewal just landed on my desk too!
Can't believe it's a year already; time seemed much slower when I was waiting...

It's been a great summer so far for top-down motoring. Think all cars should be convertibles then we could do away with air-conditioning and look how much fuel/CO2 would be saved!! You'd get a bit wet when it rains however so maybe aircon is needed after all..

Well spotted Swordfish, they are Avignon. I must state that the car is my wifes not mine,I certainly would not part with that sort of money for such a car. Why have the facia off a cheap Golf on a £27,000 car, is that "quality"

Having done a 3500 mile European trip through Spain ,Portugal France on various road types as both driver and passenger I believe the ride is harsh except on motorway's.

Why is it ,that people always have to defend their purchase
and cannot accept that there are problem areas. I shall be taking the car to the dealer tomorrow to have a leak, roof rattle, window rattle and traction control sorted !!!

Not bad for a 2 month old "quality" car.

Re the price v waiting list, you can now get an EOS in just over 2 months !

Just stating own opinions rather than defending.
Seems I've been lucky as have no problems with mine; I do accept there are others who have had problems but I do wonder if those with problems are more vociferous than those without so problems tend to get highlighted. It is of course a good thing that problems are highlighted but they don't necessarily refer to the majority of the cars.

I wouldn't call Golfs cheap and neither would I call their plastics cheap. Just because a facia is lifted from another model doesn't necessarily make it 'cheap'. You want to see a cheap facia? Go and look at some Far Eastern cars; or even better look at some American interiors..

VW (and especially Audi) have some of the best plastics in car interiors.

You are the only one so far who has complained of a 'harsh' ride on the 17" wheels so maybe it's a problem specific to your car. What kind of tyres to you have? It may be the Dealer has over-inflated them?

Points taken................................
My wife swopped a 1.5 yo A3 Sportback for the EOS and I agree the finish is excellent on the Audis so the EOS was rather dissapointing to me.................especially as the Sportback cost £22,000.

What I was meaning was that you can pay around £16,000 for a golf compared to £27,000 for an EOS and still have the same facia.

I don't believe that I am the only one who thinks the ride is harsh (apart from JC.......NOT the JC !!!!!) it is just that many people don't bother to comment.

The tyres are spot on and I doubt very much if the dealer checked them before delivery.

If you look on the various forums, there are many unhappy bunnies, as you say,the ones without problems have nothing to say !!

Well, I for one am very happy with my Eos and happy to say so! With regard to the ride, everyone who owns a car has bought the right to speak their opinion about it, so I respect everyones thoughts on this. My own perspective is that it all depends on context. I didn't buy the Eos as a 'cruiser', and assessed the ride quality during my test drive. I bought the 'sport' model too, for roadholding ability. I would never describe the ride, therefore, as brilliant - it is exactly what I expected it to be based on why I bought the car. Perhaps other peoples feelings about this relate more to their own perspective within the equation 'expectations before buying car/actual conditions after purchase'.

Nonetheless I'm not blind either - as a seasoned Audi owner some of the plastics lower down in the cabin are hard and definitely not quality, and the roof creaking, which I also sometimes get, suggests the complexity of the roof works against it - the sunroof is a nice touch but I suggest comes at a cost! I would have lived without it, personally, if it simplified the roof, and I do like simple solutions - they tend to work longer and be more trouble-free!

But - at the end of the day I love my car because its different [bet Clarkson drives a Bimmer, says it all really!], I love the top down driving [I really do!], and without being flashy most people I know have passed a comment on it along the lines of 'cool' - which my Audi never did!

JC has a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder on order; before that he had a Ford GT and before that a Ferrari F355. Believe also there was a convertible Mercedes in there somewhere. Not sure what he drives as his daily car; Range Rover maybe. He hates BMWs...

Still love my EOS

My EOS is a delight to drive, and the handling is spot on and I can drive with confidence what ever my urgency to get somewhere. Been the sport I expected the car to be sturdy on the road. If I,d wanted a cosy ride I,d have bought that type of car. I havent had any of the problems mentioned in this forum and would be certainly giving VW what for after paying a substancial sum for my EOS. It does stand out in the crowd and is always admired whereever I take her. I for one am very pleased with the car!
