I am ready to purchase an Eos, but I am looking for a manual in the komfort trim level (2008). I would like to have the lux for real leather but I know it isn't available with a manual. My number one prerequisite is the manual transmission but the dealer I have spoken to is telling me that it will be very difficult to find. I am in Dallas TX, so maybe it is a regional thing but I wonder if the dealer is being honest with me or just feeding me a line.

I know someone will tell me that the DSG is a good compromise, but I really don't want that. I would rather look at a different car than drive an automatic. Can anyone confirm or dispute what the dealer is telling me?

I dont know if anyone has noticed here in the UK that with the DSG Gearbox that the tax is higher than a manual car? instead of being £140 for a manual 2.0tdi sport its £165 for the 2.0 tdi dsg sport?

Im not sure what packages you get over there so i cant really advise you on that. I prefer manual than automatic too :)

I just looked at the VW US configurator and your dealer is correct. The Lux comes with leather and manual transmission is N/A. The Komfort comes with manual and leather is N/A. You can go to the vw.com site and go to the area where you "build" your Eos and you can see what is and is not available.

I understand that leather is not available in the komfort, I just said that I would prefer it.

But the dealer is telling me that he can't get a komfort with a manual transmission which DOES show as available on the vw site.
If I misread your post I apologize. The Komfort only comes with Manual trans and if your dealer says otherwise ask for another salesperson or another dealer. I know VW has what seems a strange way to option their cars here. Overseas it is different a little more ala carte if you will. Sounds like he trying to sell you a Lux instead of what you want.

I think dealers like you to buy something they have in stock or can get easily, so it's always worth contacting as many dealers as you can. However, I suspect that there isn't that much EOS stock around anyway, so many (most?) orders come from the factory.

My dealer was pretty upfront that you usually have to get a factory order unless you're happy to take whatever they do happen to have in stock. Although it seems an eternity, it shouldn't be more than 3-4 months wait.

Having to order what I want frightens me only because I feel I give up all control of the negotiations in that case. Can you give me any negotiating tips if it includes ordering a vehicle? Does anyone have experience with this?

Here in the US, most dealers have several Eos in their inventory. I don't think they do so much in Europe. What might be of help would be find a website such as cars.com or edmunds.com or VW.com or a similar website. Equip the car the way you want and then let the dealers bid against each other. This will usually get you a good price. Dallas area is quite large and probably has several VW dealers. I can't believe there is not a dealer in your area who doesnt have the package you want. Pick the dealers you might want to deal with and check their inventories on line. My dealer had several Komfort models on hand even though they are all labelled as having an automatic trans which we know is wrong. Whoever did the internet listing didn't know or didn't bother to get the correct info. Anyway Good Luck and Happy Shopping!!!!!!!!!!

PS just looked at vw.com again. The full spec page says you can't have auto on the Komfort but you can configure with one. I found a VW dealer in Dallas that lists having the Komfort in stock, but all their pictures have the Auto. You might want to visit a dealer and see how it is listed on the window sticker. There appears to be errors on the website.

Maybe you should give the auto another look. That's what I have and it's s a Lux with leather. I've been a lifetime stickshifter (I'm 69) and I think the auto is certainly the "stickiest" shift auto I've ever driven. About the only thing missing is a clutch pedal.

Also, the resale value for the auto might be higher down the line although at this point, that doesn't mean anything to me as I plan on keeping my Eos for a LONG time.

However, you definitely should get the exact one you wanted. About the only cars in my life that I didn't like, were the ones I compromised on, equipment wise, when purchasing. Those few were soon gone out of my life in a few years or less.

Hi
I never wanted to drive an auto (am 39...) but then tried a Touareg on Tiptronic and then a Passat on DSG and realized how auto has improved and how much semi-automatic or robotized gearboxes are from plain auto (like I used to drive every time I'd travel to the USA): silent shift, no shock/bump when changing, and pleasure of shifting gears by pressures on the stick or on the paddles behind the steering wheel make it look "manual"... And fuel saving, safety of keeping both hands on the wheel at all times, as well as full comfort of enjoyable roof down driving, made it a must hjave when I bought my EOS last summer!

It just feels right with leather, xenon, etc...

Thanks Andy,
It is good to see that I am not crazy. (that the komfort clearly does come in a manual trans.) I was emailing one salesman back and forth and he was trying to tell me that "only the turbo trim level comes with a manual" and when I pointed out that the website clearly shows the turbo and the komfort come with a manual (or an optional automatic) and that the Lux and VR6 come only in an automatic, he came back and said that he was wrong and that he sees that just now he can get ALL TRIM LEVELS with a manual transmission. That is obviously not the case and now I think he is either just messing with me or too ignorent of his product to even waste my time on.

The problem is that I have now had 6 dealers tell me that they would have to order a komfort in manual and that it would take 3 to 4 months. Does anyone know if I could post what I am looking for somewhere that many dealers would see, maybe regionally. I have been to edmunds and carsdirect etc. but they all send your request to only a few dealers. It would be nice if there was a site to post what I want and let more than a few dealers fight for it.

Eric,
If you go back to the address I gave you you will find that if you post a request for the info you need, there are some members who work at a VW dealer. Just make a list of what you want on your Eos and the region you want them to search and someone should get back to you. If you end up having to order one, they can also track it for you. The last I knew from order to arrival is about 10-12 weeks. The caris made in Portugal and in your case would come in via Houston. You will need to register on that forum, but that is no biggie. It's free also.
