My headlight washer is no longer working. The car is not yet two years old so I guess it's a warranty job. The windscreen washers seem fine. Any ideas on what may be the cause and is there a quick fix? I would be really interested to hear if anybody else has experienced this problem.

It's not clear from your post if the system is completely broken, if it is then its back to the dealer or just your method of test?
Whether its actually broken or not will depend on the testing you do.
Just to be clear the washers only work, according to the manual, with the headlights on and when the screen wash is activated they will be washed along with the screen but only in the ratio of 1 wash to the headlights and 4 to the screen.
There have also been cases recently where they have failed to work because of the cold weather freezing the mechanism. Just exhaust all possibilities before going down the dealer route.

Yes, GOgg is right that the headlights only get washed once for every 5th time you pull the wand to wash the screen, apparently, and of course only when the lights are on. Must say although I know GOgg is right it does seem that every time I wash my screen in the dark I get deluged with water from the headlight washers, which then leave a right old mess on the bonnet (hood)!

Thank you for your reply's. I have checked the system as per the hand book. It had worked fine until a cold snap, when the temp was -5c. Since then it has not functioned, even when the outside temp is +8c. The screen wash is fine but not the headlight wash. Is there a cut out switch which needs to be reset? or a fuse the might have blown? Thanx BobG

If it's not mentioned in your Owner's Handbook I would ask your dealer that question. They probably won't know the answer either...!

Hi,

I started a thread on a similar subject after travelling in -6 degree temps and having my headlamp washers freeze then not work. Fortunately a quick check of the handbook and swapping over the correct 20 amp yellow blade fuse and everything is fine again. My faith is restored that the fuse trips before any damage is done!

Cheers,

Mark

Thanx for your tips, found the fuse it had blown. Fitted a new one and all is well. Must remember not to use my washers when it's cold!!! Bob g

Trouble is the headlights are washed automatically when you use the screen-washer whatever the temperature!

So if you can't use the screen-washer when it's cold you might not be able to see where you're going!
