A/C is fine but my heater seems lukewarm at best. Am I the only one experiencing this? I mentioned it to my dealer during an oil change in September, they said it was fine, and and I didn't press the issue. I live near Chicago and it's no longer September!!

This is my first Eos but my third VW. The first two I've owned were wonderful - toasty warm within a few minutes, even after both cars became rather "elderly" (I keep them until I *have* to get rid of them).

Thank God for the heated seats....

No problem with my heaters. I suggest you check your water level. If that gets low, it can certainly have an effect on your heater.

I had a car once that had low cooling water and every time I came to a stop at a red light, the heater would blow cold air.

I have 2007 Eos 2.0T and the heat is fine, have heat in less than 5 minues after starting to drive.

I have had a few times where I had to temporarilly dial up the temp to 80 or higher to get the fan to blow hot air as fast as I wanted it to in Auto mode.

Auto is smart, it won't blow cold air it will wait until the coolant coming to the heater core is warm before it starts blowing air.

Mine works ok. Of course the engine needs to be warm but that is normal. I say back to the dealer. Either you have a venting issue, or the coolant isn't getting to the heater core properly.

heater

If you have climate contorl, then you can adjust the temperture with the wheel, but it takes a while to crank up. When I need a lot of heat quick, I turn the fan control to max, which shuts off the auto control, you still adjust the heat with the wheel. When I am comfortable, I turn the auto back on and adjust the temperture to whatever is comfortable. I took deliver in November of 06 with the temperture at 5 above zero F. 100 mile drive home, very comfortable.

my heater is not working very well either. seems to never heat up to very hot, just lukewarm. my other car gets so hot i have to roll the window down to let some of the heat out quickly before i faint. if not for the eos heated seat.....

i'll take mine in for service next time.

I don't find the A/C makes any difference to the heat... I always have my A/C on as this is very important for the health of the seals in the A/C system...

It also has the added benefit of dehumidifying which is good for the car. Damp is not good for the electronics!!

if the coolant system has been low or not bled properly there could be an air pocket in the top hose going to the heater core wich would cause the flow of coolant to be obstructed. there is a special bleeding process that needs to be done if this happens. another possibility could be in higher mileage cars the water pump shaft is spinning on the impeller (made of plastic) and will slow down the flow of coolant so in the warmer months will show in the coolant gauge or the fans may run longer than normal.

I hear that the water pump impeller problem is quite common on VW engines

Heat takes forever

Hi,

My heats been taking 10 mins to get mildly hot and 15 to reach its peak. Ive been dealing with it for over a year but my dad took my car one day and said it's terrible so Its going to the dealer monday AM for them to test.

Hope they fix it!

The usual problems of heaters not hot is engine thermostat, air locks in the heater circuit and blockages in the heater matrix. If the engine water temperature reaches normal after say 5-10 minutes running from cold, then the heater should be hot.

If the engine water temperature is much slower reaching its normal temperature, then consider having the thermostat replaced. If the engine water temperature is normal and the heater is blowing too cold, then suspect an air lock or a partially blocked heater matrix. Blockages in heater matrixes seem more common these days and it can be an expensive job to remove one to get it thoroughly flushed out.

If the local climate is regularly at and below freezing, then consider partially obstructing the front airflow with cardboard to restrict the amount of cold air getting pushed into the engine bay. BUT REMEMBER TO REMOVE IT WHEN IT GETS WARMER!

I remember seeing somewhere that VW have an optional catalytic heater which can be supplied with a new vehicle. After a fews months driving our EOS in UK I thought an additional heater was an overkill. However, top down on cold days I can definitely see an advantage in having more kilowatts of heat AND more radio volume.

I have an 09 Komfort and my heater does not even get warm. Love the heated seats. I was wondering if it could be a blending door not working. My mom had a Cadillac that had that problem. The door would not adjust to allow for heat but stayed open for AC.

Diagnostics in the hands of a good technician will confirm the engine coolant temperature. I think it will also report if the flap is working correctly too, but it could get fooled if the flap works at the correct angles but a flap door isn't sealing. It's just possible to get a small temperature probe on the water flow line into the heater matrix. If the temperature there is similar to the engine temperature and the air coming out is cold, that sounds like a flap problem. If the temperature there is much lower, then there's no hot water circulating and you should check for an air lock or bad thermostat. Something tells me there could be an electronic valve in the matrix water feed, but check with your technician.
