Just got our EOS back from the dealer and I am not sure about two of the points they made......

  • I said that I'm sure the windows should raise after lowering the roof (after the bleep) and I also seem to remember our car doing this when we first picked it up. The dealer, on the other hand, says that this was only on older EOS's. Does anybody with a recently purchased EOS have this function?

  • Global Opening / Closure... The dealer says that this is not possible at all on the EOS. Does anyone's EOS open all windows (and possibly sunroof) when you hold down the unlock button on the key?

Hi Gavin,
Mine raises the windows if I hold down the lever after the tops down. It says it does this in the manual as well. Mine was built end of March.

I think you need to call their bluff on this one... Sounds like they just didn't want to have to hook up the programmer and run the guided programming function.

I have a slightly older one, and just like Jim's the windows go up after the top is down when holding the roof button. Likewise, they will go up after the top goes up if the button is held.

Come to think of it, I play a game with the car every time I operate the roof. I call it "beat the windows". The delay between the "roof is up" message and beep, to when the windows start to move is very brief. I try to let the button go "just" before the windows move, but after the roof is finished.

I'm not too good at it, as usually the windows move a tiny bit. :( I figure I have many years to perfect it. I guess I'll just suffer away and keep trying.

As for your dealership... Take it back and tell them to program it properly. :)

Gavin,
Perhaps I have some credibility now, because I mentioned in one of your earlier posts that your windows should go up at the end of the roof opening/closing cycle.
Now, if you insert your key into the drivers door and turn it clockwise, it should not only lock your doors, but it will raise the windows if they are down.
Conversely, if you turn the key counter-clockwise, the door will unlock and the windows will lower, if they are in the raised position. Note that in both cases, you must turn the key and hold it in that position for the above to occur.
Lastly, atleast in U.S. spec models, nothing will open the sunroof/top except using the switch within the vehicle designated for that purpose.
As Eosmage said, something is seriously wrong with your dealer if they won't take the time to figure this out. You might want to show them the owner's manual and these threads.
Eosmage, I have also yet to time the windows perfectly. :)

I find this key feature very useful if you have the sun roof open with the rear windows open, close the sunroof exit the car and find you've left the windows open. (these senior moments seem to become more frequent).

cheers

I agree; I can't believe for a minute that VW have removed the feature. Why would they spend money modifying it?

I also play beat the system but can get it spot on now. Have you noticed however that it doesn't reduce the roof-lowering time if all windows are already down? It spends the first 4 or 5 seconds THINKING it's lowering the windows before anything else starts to move!

It is possible to get the comfort opening and closing of the windows by using your remote controle.

I've had a friend activate it for me, it took about 2 minuts. So now I can open/close the windows by pressing and holding the Open/Close buttons. Though we couldn't get the sun roof to open/close as well:(

It is a standard feature in all new VW cars and your dealer just needs to activate it.

Get perfect timing every time....

Ok, this may seem dorky, but I am a scientist after all...

I let go of my convertible switch once the trunk lid closes and the two flaps start closing. If you let go when the two flaps start closing - the mechanism still finishes and the windows portion never starts. Just watch the rear side mirrors and the second they start moving you are good to go!

I'll try that today!
I once let go going the other way and the whole lot stopped in mid-air...

This is true if you have the programmer, however, it was my understanding that the windows and roof "remote operation" was not a separately definable command and that it is achieved by setting the vehicle's "home" to something other than North America. By doing this, you also change several other settings that might violate some rule or other.

I've still got to persuade my wife that the VAG-COM tool is a necessary item for the well being of our car, so I don't yet have first hand experience.

I probably shouldn't post this because I have not personally confirmed that it is true, however, a little part of me is hoping that someone who does have it will either validate or flame me. ;)
