Hi, I am hoping you Eos experts can help with a sticky situation. I left my Eos to have a trailer hitch installed (no wiring, just mechanical) and was picking up the car after hours, so the mechanic locked the keys in the trunk. I brought my spare key to unlock. He did contact me earlier in the day to say that he was having trouble locking the door and leaving the keys on the drivers seat, since it kept automatically unlocking itself as soon as he shut the door, that is why he put them in the trunk. I was on the phone with him and instructed him to press the lock button on the remote, then open the trunk with the remote, throw the keys inside and close the trunk. Over the phone I heard the "beep" you always hear when you close the trunk and the car is locked.

When I went to pick up the car my spare remote key fob wouldn't work at all. I tried using the actual key to manually open the door, and it wouldn't turn. I tried pressing the trunk button on the key fob, again nothing. A little red light comes on on the key fob when I press the unlock, lock or trunk buttons, but the car does not respond. I called a local VW dealership to ask what to do, and they have never heard of this, suggested I get the car towed to the dealership and they will try to figure it out. Before I do that, any suggestions?

.......................................... Before I do that, any suggestions?

I assume VW Canada offer a roadside assist service for vehicles under warranty so contacting this service would be my first suggestion. We get this service in Australia as an integral part of the sale.

If the vehicle is out of warranty or roadside assist is not provided, seek help from your motoring organisation [presuming you are a member] road service as they will have knowledge on gaining entry to the vehicle which should not be public knowledge for obvious reasons. Our Australian road service receive regular calls from police and ambulance personnel to release children who have been found accidentally/deliberately locked in cars while their parents are absent. The road service mechanics have access to a database to obtain information on accessing all models of vehicles [including a universal "smash rear window" recommendation if all else fails :D ].
