Hi all. Sorry not been around lately, been working very hard!
Got a major problem though, can anyone help?

I am away from home, with only one key fob and yes you guessed it, its got locked in the boot! We have had green flag out to the car and they cant get into it (very reassuring under different circumstances!)

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Trish

Can a local VW dealership get a replacement key for you? I'm pretty sure they keep enough info on file to be able to do so, even if it's just a fob...

Forget about the Fob. With the nutszy key that VW has, I would think it would be almost impossible to pick the lock. If VW can't help in a timely manner, I would have to strongly consider breaking a rear window, reaching in and opening a front door and then tapping on the button that opens the trunk.

I carry the valet key in my wallet for this kind of situation. I wish the valet key were not so wide, but it is what it is. At least it doesn't have a Fob on it.

Based on what I've paid for other windows in cars, I wouldn't think the rear window would cost more than $250. In terms of labor, perhaps a front side window would be cheaper to work on replacing.

Good luck and let us know how you solved the problem.

PS If you don't want to carry the valet key, wiring it somewhere on the undercarriage might be a good idea.

We did ring VW and they said they could get a replacement key but it would take 5 days because of security checks.

Dont think we got a valet key to be honest, just the 2 key fobs. I think the window option might not work either as the breakdown company today tried to open the door by putting a wire through the window and unlocking the door and boot from inside but that didnt work.
Thanks for your suggestions though.

Hi Trish did you get anywhere love?

Bit of a tricky one isn't it could your hubby not bring the spare key to you? Or is that too much of a pain? The only other option I could think of is smashing the passenger window and opening the door that way, might cost a bit of money and having your car cleaned properly. It's a shame that non of our keys are the same or I would of come and saved you :)

I hope you have got it sorted now.

Hi Tishy. Sorry to see about your dilemma.

Personally I would get the train home to get the spare key.

Must be a better bet than breaking a window.

Depends where you are, of course, but I'm assuming you are somewhere in the British Isles!

Oh. Just read the time of your post so my suggestion is a bit of waste of time! Sorry!

Valet key...

I bought my Eos in the US. I assume VW give the valet key with any Eos purchased world-wide, but perhaps they don't. As you can see, it's quite a bit shorter and also narrower, so its not a big chore to carry it in my wallet. Hope I never have to use it, but its nice to have if my main key gets locked in the car or just left somewhere.

Ours aren't like that we just get 2 of the ones on the left :)

Worried now! It's not possible to lock keys in the my Passat - a very good reason I have one! So how easy IS it to lock the keys in the Eos - I need to know before I pick it up because there is a good chance I would do just that (I spend a lot of my day in La-La Land according to my family!)

I did this once when I had my Audi TT  I had recently moved, spare key was im my breifcase in the boot, opened the boot and dropped that key in the boot before closing. Ahhhhhh. Fortunately a very nice man from the RAC came out, he enjoyed a challenge, working underneath the car for an hour and a half he managed to power the windows down he could then reach in and was able to reach the manual boot release and all was well again :D

It's VERY easy to do (not that I've done it!) when say you've been in the supermarket and you only unlock the boot to drop your shopping in but leaving the car locked as you still have to return the trolley to the trolley-park. If you put your keys down in the boot whilst you put the bags in the boot then without thinking drop the boot-lid - oh oh - how do I get back in ?!!

It's really easy to do thank god I've never done it, I make sure I check my pockets before I close the boot to make sure I have my keys.

The British Empire is still alive - we colonials also only get two immobiliser keys and no valet key.

My guess as to the reason why this applies is that we still park our own cars :D :D :D .

Interesting

;) I had the same issue a few months ago and so I phoned the assistance and he came and used a wire and opened the side doors, then he said good luck. I was panicking but my friend was with me and calmed me down. Well he said let us pull the latch in the back where the trunk is. I pulled the emergency latch and lo and behold we were on our way. Love VW Assistance here in Vancouver, Canada...home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.:D

I had the same issue today. My wife locked the key in the trunk. I found through a friend a locksmith and all was good in 5 minutes. He opened the door and luckily I had the opening in the backseat unlocked and was able to access the inside of the trunk, finding the key.
Don't break any window. It's not worth it.

Yes they will if you left the keys in the car or trunk, had the hood lifted and were changing the battery. Clunk-Click and your car is now locked!:(

Always keep keys in your pocket when working on the car.:)
