Hi All

Well I'm not exactly an owner yet but I'm nearly there. I was down to my last two selections, the EOS and the Focus CC. It was just a matter of weighing up the pros & cons. However, reading the drivers reviews at whatcar.com has tipped the balance. All the Focus drivers gave it a 1 star rating and said how much problems they have had (and wished they had gone for the EOS). All the EOS drivers gave it a 4/5 star rating.

The only downer is that as a company car driver, its near impossible to get a test drive. I've sat in a few and got a picture of it on my desk. Hopefully I'll get a drive soon.

I won't be getting the car until January but my plan is to drive with the roof down as much as possible. As long as its not raining, I'm happy with a fleece and woolly hat (and heated seats).

Look foward to meeting you all if ever an EOS rally is organised.

Happy driving

Hi Richard,

Get yourself a test drive and be smitten. The Focus does not come close to the Eos in just about every way. You have made the correct choice, get the order in now!

I agree fully with Gogg - waited 12 or so weeks for our EOS and it was worth every single minute. Only had her a week and I can safely say she is the best car I have ever owned, and I have had a selection of nice cars over the years, including 2 TT Roadsters and a SEAT Leon Cupra R.

Hey Richard, you talking about an EOS rally has given me an idea....

When we do finally get around to having such a thing, those still awaiting their cars should hitch a ride with another EOS (already got their car) owner.

That way it means that alot of people won't miss out and it also gives a taster of what the cars are like to those still waiting.

Now all we need is some volunteer EOS owners...

The only reason I could possibly imagine anyone picking the Focus over the EOS would be on price. For me this is the only advantage it has over the EOS, apart from Boot space maybe. Although with a back end as big as that, the Focus is bound to have more room.

Even with the cheaper price of the Focus CC I would imagine over time the Focus would lose more money so making the Eos a better financial proposition. The higher price of the Eos will help ensure the exclusiveness of the car. That fact that the Eos has been around for the best part of a year but still a very rare site on the roads is great for us. This will help the second hand price stay strong.

Out of interest does anyone have any ideas to the amount of Eos's that are built per year and of those how many are sold in the UK?

Only know that about 12,000 2007 models imported into U.S. Maybe someone else will chime in with additional numbers worldwide and for the UK.

Cheers SoCalMan,

I believe that the UK is the biggest buyer of convertibles in the EU. I know a very strange fact given our weather. But I would be surprised if we had even 3000 units here, but then again only guessing, does someone have the correct info?

I am not surprised...the UK has a glorious history of making some of the most beautiful drop tops in the world! In fact, I own one (and she is beautiful, atleast to me.) :)

I did quite a few sums prior to choosing on the EOS, comparing the 307 CC, Megane CC, and a few others before settling on an EOS. The depreciation on the 307 was just horrendous, the Renault and Ford were better, but not as good as the EOS. Working out over 3 years, the EOS should break even with the others - beyond that 'it's an investment' :)

I haven't once regretted my decision to wait for the EOS - now the weather is a bit better, the roof is off every opportunity! go for it - it's worth the wait

I drove a Ford Focus as a company car for over a year. It was the worst car I've ever driven. If people gave it a 1 star, it was probably because they couldn't opt to say 0.

You probably want to know what the issues were? Now you've done it, I've gotten started on a rant about the Focus... lookout.

1) Right front tire made a "thumping" noise as it turned. go faster? faster thump. Replaced entire assembly... twice. Still did it.

2) Brakes were spongy and needed to be pressed all the way to the floor in order to slow down. There was no "emergency stop" in the focus. They bled the lines twice, replaced the brake lines once, and changed the brake pads and finally the entire mechanism in the rear.

3) Air conditioner was pathetic. In the winter, just to "dry out" the air it wasn't able to do it. The air wasn't cold and it always sounded like a bicycle with a card in the wheel when the fan was on "click click click click" They removed the air con unit twice, once to "rebuild it" and once to "replace it". The car was 5 weeks old the first time, and 4 months the second time.

4) Car failed to start 1 in 6 times (approximately). Turn the key, "RR rrr rr rrr rr" turn the key off. wait 5 seconds. Turn the key... sometimes this would happen twice, sometimes 3 times....sometimes it would start on the first try. it was fuel injected, so I always turned the key to on, waited for the fuel pump to prime the fuel system, and then tried.

5) Window (driver door) handle broke off when trying to close the window. Yes, the car had A/C but no power windows. go figure. When I took the car back to Ford with the broken handle, they insisted that it wasn't covered under warranty because it was "abused". I tried to explain that I was just closing the window. I asked how they thought I would abuse the window handle.... I suggested that perhaps I should use it to beat them with, as it wasn't any good for window moving. This happened after 8 months of car use.

6) Spare tire was flat on delivery. Took the car to the office (I'm a computer technician and had an air pump at the office) and tried to fill it. wouldn't hold air. Turns out the tire had a defect in the rim which was causing the air to leak out. Ford replaced the rim, but charged the company $15 to "mount" the tire on the new rim. I knew that this wasn't going to be a good relationship (with Ford) when they were charging us 1 day after delivery for repairs to defective parts.

the list goes on. over the year and a half I drove it, there were about 17 issues, 5 of which were serious safety ones. The car is still in use within the company, and still spends far more time at the service department than any of the other cars we have-- i don't have to drive it anymore, they apparently felt sorry for me and decided to punish someone else.

If you have a choice between ANY other car and a Focus... I'd suggest running away from the Focus screaming.

I should mention that we bought 4 of the cars at the same time, and the other 3 are not much better.

I owned a Ford Explorer for a few years too. Lets not even talk about the transmissions that are designed to last only 95k when the warranty expires at 90k. <sigh>

Thank goodness that there are companies that make nice cars... My VW Eos hasn't had one issue, starts when I turn the key, stops when I hit the brake, and looks GOOD! Yay for VW! Yay for Honda too, as my Civic SiR hasn't had one issue, and I've owned it for over 5 years. Regular maintenance and nothing else. Brilliant :)

Again, sorry for the wall of text. When talking about either the Explorer or Focus, I tend to get emotional. Those were some BAD car years.

Wanna buy another Ford Focus?
Bahahahahahahaha

Sure, I'll give you $25 for it. I'll wash it, machine polish it, paint seal it, wax it, then turn around and sell it for $700 (to pay for my detailing time) ;)

If nothing else, I could use it to practice my rotary polishing skills. ;)

I hope you don't really have one, I'd hate to cause offense. I just don't really think well of the Ford product line since both Explorer and 4 different Focuses were all junk.

It is possible, I suppose, that I'm just unlucky and that other Fords are great. But with the VW and the Honda... I'm not buying that. <sticks fingers in ears>

Sadly, I haven't owned a Ford product since 1964, and haven't owned a Big 3 auto since 1982! Maybe one of these years I will go back, but I'm certainly in no rush. Just love the precision and quality overall of both Japanese and especially German cars .... two Bimmers and a whole string of VW products! So, I won't be trying to "feist a Focus" on you!
Cheers!
