gb and others,

The H7 bulb is used on BOTH the low beam and high beam positions on the 2007 and 2008 EOS, that do NOT have the factory zenon headlight assemblies.

Just after purchasing my 2007 EAOS last may, I removed the factory installed Osrom/Sylvania H7 bulbs and replaced all four with the the Sylvania SilverStar H7 bulbs, which resulted in a slightly brighter, much whiter, cleaner light.

Then earlier this week I removed my low beam H7 SilverStar bulbs, and installed the NEW Sylvania SilverStar ULTRA H7s ($48.88 at Advance Auto Parts) in their place. WOW.....what an improvement.....they are even brighter than the "regular" SilverStar bulbs, and have far better sideroad lighting capabilities, especially on the right side of the road. In addition, Sylvania claims that they will have 30% more life than their standard SilverStar bulbs.

I will eventually change out my high beam bulbs for the new SilverStar ULTRA H7s and will let you know about them.

NEW Sylvania SilverStar ULTRA H7s

Well they sound rather fab. How am I going to get hold of those in the UK. A quick google search revealed nothing obvious with a UK slant.
Any thoughts of UK or European retailers?

This page
http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/home.php?cat=256
Has got a lot of H7s, but none seem to be the described bulbs.

Please ignore this grey paragraph. It's incorrect.
Also, a forum post I read said:
low beam---9006 su/2
high beam--9005 su/2
Is that correct? The low beam bulbs are slightly different, but both are Silverstar Ultras
.

So I assume I would want 2 of each to replace the front lights.

Last question. Are they easy to fit or do I need to ask my not so ultra bright VW dealer? ;)

dhaider and gb,

Dhaider, I don't know what to tell you about locating the SilverStar ULTRA H7 bulbs in the UK. However, I did go the website you listed above, and it appears that their closest bulb to the AMERICAN SilverStar ULTRA H7 is the Osram H7 12 volt, 55 watt, "Night Breaker +90% Bulbs".

Also, I can't comment about the forum post that stated low beam = 9006 su/2 and high beam = 9005 su/2. Could it be that European EOS's have DIFFERENT headlamp bulbs vs. North American EOS's?!

I know for a fact, and WITHOUT A DOUBT, that NORTH AMERICAN EOS's have (1) H7 bulb in each LOW beam position and (1) H7 bulb in each HIGH beam position.

And gb, the bulbs are really easy to install......clearly written, easy to follow instructions are in your owner's manual. Once familiar with the instructions, it should take you about 10-15 minutes to do BOTH the low beam AND high beam bulbs.

Ok. I've made a bit of a mistake. Ignore all that 9006/9005 stuff. I was on the osram site looking at the ultras and saw they had 9006 on the packet shown. I though 9006 was a type of H7.

I'm sure as you originally suggested we would need 4xH7s. There is nothing to suggest otherwise.

I'm going to edit my original post to prevent confusion. You may wish to edit yours after that.

As far as I know, the difference is the wattage.... The 9005 is 60 watts and the 9006 is 55 watts....

Not 100% sure, I just recall this for some reason.... I also think H7 are the correct bulbs though.....

£66 for 4 lightbulbs! (Night Breaker H7s) That's a lot of money
Freddybear, can you do a bit more convincing?
Worth it in your opinion?

£28 for 2, so 56 for 4. A little better.
Now There!
As an Eye doctor I am sure you would be biased to the importance of sight above all else! So ... the same for headlight bulbs. I'm hoping they will be in Canada very soon and I will be in the line! The vision is much better and they look cool. I tried some cheap knockoffs before and can hardly wait! By the way, told you before I am a fumblebum, so got the dealer to install the 4 bulbs .... cost 20 minutes labour. It is a little tricky, but certainly an Opthamologist could do it! Think instructions on bulb changing are in the manual. Cheers!

If these are not available in the UK (or Canada) but will fit the UK/Canadian Spec EOS then why don't we get a nice American helpful member of the forum to buy them and post them to us?

Any volunteers Freddybear?

That could be a posibility, but I would check with Osram first. I think Sylvania and Osram are one and the same company?

Schoolhousefred and others,

You are correct.....Osram is a European company (I think German) that is in partnership with Sylvania which is an American ompany. I don't know what their exact realtionship is, but they are definitely connected, as their packaging here in the USA has BOTH names on it.

I would suggest that you in the UK or Europe contact Osram over there and ask them which H7 bulb of theirs is comparable to the Sylvania H7 SilverStar ULTRA. In the past, the lumen output and lighting patterns in European headlight systems was far superior to anything we could get here in the USA, and it may still be that way.....which means you guys (and ladies) on the other side of the pond might be able to buy an H7 Osram bulb that is SUPERIOR to the SilveStar ULTRA that we can get here.....:) :D !!

Keep us posted.....

I've emailed OSRAM (Europe) to ask about differences between the US Silverstar Ultras and the European Night breakers. I had a look around other forums and there is not much yet about the Night breakers as they only came out this month. What little there is suggests they are the best legal option available (at least in Europe).
I'll let you know if they reply.

SHFred with his ophthalmology reply persuaded me though - didn't take much :D
I've ordered 4xH7 Nightbreakers (£56 from autobulbsonline.co.uk).

Out of interest ;) what bulbs do my front fog lights use?

Thanks Paul.

For anyone else considering a similar purchase. I can recommend autobulbsonline. Cheaper than the competition and arrived the next day. Payment by paypal, so I know it's secure.

By the way, the bulbs are surprisingly brighter than the normal ones. I'm very impressed. They make my sidelights look very yellow by comparison now.
