Hi Peepes, just had a small idea..obviously as we all know there is major concern wether these water leak issues are anything to worry about for potential future EOS owners and what i am finding is that in threads regarding them ,you seem to attract more "Negative" replies from owners of leaky cars than positive replies. but if you look how many members there are it all puts it into perspective! ..............What if....the moderator was to have a simple "poll"?............"Has your Eos ever had a water leak"? YES...or ....NO.
with just a simple number under the "yes or no" at least then you would get a fair ratio and persentage rather than "just the 3 angry owners saying it leaks like a sieve" maybe you could have another.."If you had a leak did Krytox fix it?" YES or NO...?....what do you think?

If someone says their Eos hasn't leaked, you can draw one of two conclusions:
1. They're lying; or
2. It never rains where they are.

Mine leaks ( I live in the UK ), and i've even lsot an upper door speak due to leaks. I'm not negative about this however, VW put a new speaker in free of charge & they even called yesterday to ask how the car was. I've had it just over a year now & I love it. They knew about my leaks, but they don't bother me enough to take it in.

A few simple tips for you guys, which might help. If its raining, or the car has water on it, you want to minimise the time your windows are down. So don't unlock it while you're walking upto it. Unlock it when you're next to it and ready to get in.
The same applies when you're getting out. Don't take the key out of the ignition until you're fully ready to get out of the car.

I had thought about doing a poll myself, but I still don't think it would be reflective of the number of people with issues. No doubt, a disgruntled EOS owner would google EOS LEAK or something and it would be the first thing they found.

That, and the fact that my EOS has a leak, but it's only a minor leak that I will not trouble VW with at the moment. My car didn't leak for 2 years, so I expect it's a bit of the magic lube required, when I get around to it.

I honestly don't believe the EOS is any worse than any other CC on the market - although there are some cars which suffer more than others. Worth bearing in mind if buying used.

Its not worse than any CC on the market. The Eos is actually the best in its class.
What are the rivals/? 307 CC, Renault Megane Sport, Focus CC, Astra Twin Top, A3 Cabriolet? Its better than all of those.

I'm not lying and I certainly don't live in a part of the UK where it doesn't rain (is there one?!) but my car does NOT suffer from leaks.

Once I had a few drips from where the drain is on the top of the A-pillar on the driver's side, when it was a particularly hard shower, but in 2 and a half years ownership that's the only time any water has ever got in (except when I wound the window down when it was covered in snow and it all fell inwards; idiot!)

Those with non-leaky cars don't tend to mention it so you only read the problems faced by those whose cars do leak.

Those 'few drips' you mention coming down the pillar, is the leaking in question :p

Yes, but they really were only a few drips and only once.
I know that when you pay over £25000 for a car you don't expect it to leak but on the other hand it is a convertible and even with the very best of modern technology it is hard to stop a little bit of water getting in occasionally, so I decided it was just something I had to put up with for the fun of having a drop-top.

Need to define the term leak too! Yes I get a some dribbles down the A pillar when I open the door, yes its annoying, and I have noticed a damp patch in the boot - once, and a small dribble coming in the passenger door when i turned a sharp corner! The latter I put down to the rather heavy rain we've had here, and the fact that I've not opened the passenger door for a while to release the water!

I don't think that any of those are really leaks - in my eyes that would be me sat in the car and seeing water come in whilst all the doors etc are shut.

Must add that the A pillar is the only one that's happened more than once and I just put up with it!

My EOS leaks and, to Nail-z's point, I still believe it's the best of CCs so far.
MY EOS leaks and, to other people's points, it DOES leak, which is unacceptable for the 30-40k EURO price...

The main leak was apparently from a bad joint/seal in betwen the front driver's door and the front windscreen. Now, last week, after heavy rain during 3 days in a row, I figured out the piece that is on the side of the opening glass-roof, and fits into the front hole when the (total) roof closes, was soaked and dripping on the passenger's seat... I wiped evevrything clean, tried opening/closing the window several times, etc, but cannot check if the leak was due to the window not being closed, or if VW has not fixed the initial leak correctly, because it ha not rained since then...

Can someone please re-explain what A B C etc. pillars are, so I can relate to your comments?

for want of a beetr way of describing it, the pillars are the "posts" holding up your roof. The A pillar is the one always at the front ie holding in your front windscreen, B pillar is usually the one at the edge of your door etc.

Yeah the windscreen post is allways A then the next one back B then the next one C then D right at the back (for some cars with 4 posts...if not the last one is C)

As for the original idea ,can't help noticing we have started the leaking debate again! LOL... Let's have a poll

Kuz_Starr.

You are wrong, I have had my EOS for a year and it doesnt leak at all, dry as a bone in fact.

Granted, I use a car cover but for the last two weeks, due to illness I have not been able to cover the car and the rain we have had has been torrential.

Apart from the usual water build up when you open the doors, there is nothing.

Well, I'm only a newbie to the EOS scene, but I've had mine now 3 weeks and it doesn't have any leaks at all. I don't use a garage or car cover and it has rained hard where I am - in fact, its raining right now.

I'm really happy with the car so far.

I've had one minor leak up around the windshield/ A-pillar connection. However after krytoxing it, the problem has gone away. I feel lucky so far.

I can safely say that my '08 Eos doesn't leak at all.
The only time I get water come in is in droplet form when opening the door and drips fall down from the seal around the window!

I don't even get misting in my car on the windscreen after parking it and leaving it.

I've only had minor problems: knocking from the boot which is now fixed and speaker vibration which is fixed.

I love my Eos :)

We had a 2008 that leaked so bad the passenger would get a wet leg during a rain. There was a space between the side window and the seal about 5 mm. They replaced the main seal and that still did not fix it. VW replaced it with an 09 and no leaks so far.

I wonder what they do with the old car when they replace it with a new one? Do they then fob that off on to some sucker without telling them they'll get wet when they drive it? Surely they don't crush it or use it for spares?!

Well, I'll tell you what happened with mine. Despite the dealer telling me it was being returned to VW as being rejected, and it would then be up to VW to decide; it has now turned up back on their forecourt for sale. I pity whoever buys it, because you can guarantee the dealer will not tell them it's a rejected car.......

In 30+ years working in the Motor industry, the last 25 or so actually for 4 different manufacturers (ie not dealers) I have only known 1 vehicle to ever be brought back by a manufacturer, and that was when a highly modified one (a show car in effect) had been so over modified it was a mechanical nightmare and could be dangerous, that one was acutally crushed.

In general it is not the maufacturer who has the liabilty with the owner, we all buy our cars from the dealers, the dealers usually get osme assistance from the manufacturer if it is particularly bad. But generally it is always up to the dealer to finally move the replaced car.

So even though it's been deemed 'unfit for purpose' (otherwise they wouldn't have replaced it in the first place!) it is deemed fit to sell on secondhand. What do you think are the chances they come clean with the purchaser and explain why they have it?

Must remember to check thoroughly on a car's history if and when I buy a used car!
