I pick my Eos up this week, and am coming to it from a much loved Audi [my third in a row] - I did some soul searching when I came to the decision - the test drive convinved me that this was a good thing to do - there is a VERY premium car feel about it. Presumably that convinced you too.

I don't think the niggles on this forum are anything to worry about - I checked some Merc user forums out of interest [Not a Merc/BMW man as I don't like their image, personally], simply because I was interested in what the owners rather than magazine writers [with vested interests of their own] were saying - and they were VERY dissatisfied - I would never even think of buying a Merc until the quality issues have been resolved and represented as such in user feedback!

So - style/design is right, build quality is right, reliability is right - that only leaves brand image. And thats a personal choice. For my part - in the UK the roads are packed with BMW's [the 3 series outsells the Ford Mondeo], Mercs fall apart, and apart from the IS, the Lexoids are just dull to look at. And the IS isn't the drivers car it was originally thought. Audis I love, but hey, its the same family - why do we like Audis? Understated styling, fantastic build quality, er - VW Eos stand up!!

Its a solid choice - you won't be disappointed

Cheers

I agree with Paul, You have made a good decision which I am sure you will be delighted with. I considered the BMW 3 series but as Paul says there are just too many around. The Eos has that special air of class about it and its road manners and performance is up there with the best of them.

Paul is absolutely spot on.
Also I've had my car for 9 months and no problems worth mentioning!

After 2 yrs of researching, I was so close to putting the money down on a Volvo C70, my wife loved it and it does have a aire of class and age, equally understated design and a couple of nicer feature, but after the dealer told me that I cannot have my color for list price, but $3000 above invoice because of the popularity of the white, okay so I picked a black one, they say it's equally popular and is also $3000 above sticker,....I told them it's against my religion to pay above sticker. I'm not the kind of dummy to spend $20,000 for a launch date playstation 3 as well.

So it prompted me to start looking, I was skeptical on the web when I was looking at the eos, but upon driving it, I fell in love with the handling and the spirited engine, not to mention the oversize sunroof. being a architectural designer, design matters to me a lot, and the EOS hit all the right notes. 2 months and 1800 miles later, still think I dodge the bullet on the C70. Thank you price gouging volvo dealer. Yeah, not to mention I saved $10,000 ...cha -ching!!!

I had a previous model C70T coupe - solidly built car with undoubted air of class, BUT very indifferent handling [great on motorways but oh boy, those back roads found it out BIG time!!!] and was being serviced every other month. I agree, I think you made a great decision, and enough change to buy PS3 too and STILL have a decent holiday!!!

wishes

You should read some car mag comparative tests which include the Eos and the C70. Both 'Auto Express' and 'What Car?' mag in the UK did similar ones and in both cases the Eos got 5 stars and the C70 only 3 (along with the Renault Megane, Peugeot 307 and Vauxhall Astra). The C70 was comprehensively trashed as being soggy and boring to drive!

Without a shadow of a doubt you've made the right choice, even allowing for our slight bias...
