Hi everyone, I am a newby to this sight so please forgive my lack of knowledge about the Eos.
I took delivery of my new Eos in mid march and it's great to be open top motoring again. (looking forward to summer)

I want to change my high beam bulbs to Philips X treme and the sidelight bulb for something a little whiter, the only reference in the manual is that it should be done by "VW mechanic" or a "competant person". I have tried to do a search on the subject of changing the headlight bulbs but find nothing detailed enough.

Any help would be appreciated !!!!

Since you did not say where you live I can only tell you what I know. I have a 2007 and live in the US. In my owner' s manual kit I have a Publication shown as Booklet 3.2 Tips and Advice. It shows about 8 pages of bulb change info starting at page 91. I would figure the the 08 info would be similar. Also I would think non US info would be similar.

Thanks for the reply Andy.

I am from the UK.

I checked in the manual 3.2 pages 102 and 103 in the UK version ---- no pictures and no explanantions of how to change the headlight bulbs, only the statement that they should be changed by a qualified mechanic and ideally by the main dealer.

Ridiculous to think that VW are suggesting owners should go to the main dealer just to replace a headlight bulb.

Any printed advice or pictures would be welcome.

Changing driver's side bulb is straightforward on UK model (well, a little fiddly).
Move clip on rear headlight cover upwards, then remove cover - the bulb then just pulls out. Note the locating tab position and insert the replacement - it just clicks in place when inserted.

Passenger side requires removal of airbox - this is why VW put their helpful "take it to dealer" in the instructions. You might be able to get the bulb out without removing airbox (not at all easy), but it will be a real battle getting it back in...

The good news is that on my old VW had to only change 1 headlight bulb after 7 years (though it was the awkward passenger side..)

Have been experimenting with this for Xenon bulb mod.

On some cars changing bulbs is in fact a very complicated task and much better left to the dealer, although not necessarily on the Eos.

Isn't it the Golf where you have to remove the entire front bumper to change a headlight bulb?

Indeed, the Golf requires lots of back-to-the-dealer treats: lights, oil...
The Renault Espace, and all recent AlfaRomeo models also require dealer action to fix what used to be basic maintenance tasks... Seems a good way for our dealers to maintain revenues as the distance in between 2 visits increases year after year...

I can think of another good reason. The number of people who do there own bulb changes and dont check the beam alignment, is the bane of my life when driving at night. At least at a dealer the setting up should be correct.

Indeed... And although this was not the reason for chosing Xenons on my EOS, it surely was a nice benefit associated to them, as I now understood that they sort of auto-adjust at startup, depending on car load... So no need to adjust the beams (and of course no need to change bulbs :p )

I was looking to change the high beam and sidelight bulb and following the advice from you all, I have looked in detail today and I think I can manage without a trip to the dealer.

Many Thanks again

Hello there, I am also a newbie here and recently my father bought a second hand 2008 Volkswagen Eos Headlight Bulb, do you have a copy or PDF file of the manual that you have mentioned? We are changing the headlight bulb and we are taking the luck if we can both do it ourselves.Or the last choice we had is to look for a mechanic?
