My EOS 2.0T did 5000 miles service in Santa Monica VW, about $13 labor and total $73 out of the door. I just did the 10,000 miles service at Garden Grove VW in California USA, they charge me $123 for labor, that is after 10% AAA discount. It cost me about $198 before 10% AAA discount to get out of the door. Both delar charge $40 for the oil but labor charge is $13 v.s. $123 USD...
Did I just got F**ked by Garden Grove VW? ( I said thank you when I got out of the door)
How much you paid for 10,000 miles service?
All the VW delar charge the same for service?

Boy I wish your dealer was over here inthe UK, last week I paid £460 for the 1st service on my Freelander, which really is only an oil change, oil is actually the only thing they replace, the rest is just check this, check that.

My Eos is 4 moths old,but I bet there will not be much changes for a couple of hundered pounds when the 1st service is due.

My 5k was about $55 after a dealer coupon. The normal price would have been $79 for not much more than an oil change. The oil was about $7 a qt for synthetic oil and the rest was labor. When my 10k was done, the dealer got me for about $150, but they did more stuff. My 20k was $430 and still more was done. Each maintenance is more involved. Just check your owner's manual. I expect the 30 and 40k to be ridiculous. I think some cross shopping may be in order. I joined the VWoA Club and found other dealers who will charge less, up to 15%.

I paid a little over £130 for my first (10k) service, of which £37.50 was labour (0.5 hrs @ £75/hour).

The 2 year, 20k service was £340, which included an aircon service.

I paid £113 last year for a 10,000 mile service which included £37.50 for labour and £51.56 for oil.
Last Friday I paid £202 for a 20,000 mile service which included £82.50 for labour, £36 for oil (Quantum long life) and £30 for the roof seals to be lubed. Not too bad I think but having just written this I'll be querying the oil price differences.
My dealer is also good at waiving the insurance charge for the loan car I get. (I've never paid this with other marques, is VW a first?

Sounds like you got off easy with the $73 charge at 5,000.
Maybe they made a typo then and the $13 should've really
been $113. I don't know. That was just way cheap.
My charge was $133.85

For my 10,000 mi service I paid $160.65, and that included
a AAA discount (that I was not informed about at the first
service).

Stephanie,
Don't quite know how to put this nicely but they overcharged you on the 5k service. Almost everyone in the US that I have read or talked to paid $90 or less for that service. Outside of the oil and filter change and fluid top offs and a safety check, there isn't much else they do. The 10k was about right as they do about double the items as compared to the 5k.

According to the VW schedule online (US), here are the additions to the 5K service that makes it a 10K service:

Windshield Washer Fluid - check level
Automatic Shift Lock - check operation
Wheels - rotate from front to rear

If I remember correctly, my 10K service was about $20-30 dollars more than my 5K service... and this is on 2 VWs in the past 3 years at 2 different dealears.

If I were you, I would take it back to Santa Monica in the future. Their initial 5K price is pretty much in line with other US dealers ($60-$100).

During time in dealer getting 10K oil change, I read sales brochures that say VW is doing no charge for all scheduled maintenance through 30K. My dealer is charging for this scheduled service.
Anyone know if VW is now only offering free service only on new sales or are they covering 2008s as well?

Sorry TM. Free maintenance on 09s only. BTW the warranty on 09s has been shortened to 3yr/36,000 (US and maybe Canada).

I prepaid my services when I bought the car....to avoid rate increased on oil/labor in the future. Granted, it is an interest-free loan to VW, but easier in the long run for me. Just had my tire rotation/oil change service and while I didn't "pay anything" the bill was for $89.95 (US).

218 euros ($276 USD)
This is I paid for an annual or 15000km (approx 10000miles) in my VW dealership even though my car only has 9500km.

Expensive you might say, but I never would bring my car in a non Volskwagen garage.

I paid $203.00 US. Could be the look on my face when they had taken my roof apart when I had asked them not to. They are still clueless about lubiricating the seals or Krytox. I will have to buy it on line and do it myself. I an terrified if anything really goes wrong with this car.

Hi Lopaka,

I wouldn't be too worried about this for the following reasons:
  1. The major mechanical components other than the folding roof are standard VW components shared by other mass-production models so parts availablity and dealer service familiarity should not be a future problem. Notwithstanding this, I would make sure your car is serviced by a VW dealer with a permanently busy service section. My partner will be taking her car to the city for service rather than using our regional VW dealer for this reason [they are a multi-manufacturer dealer and VW does not appear to be their biggest-selling manufacturer].
  2. If you have problems with the roof and your service dealer does not have a lot of Eos experience as appears to be the case from your posts, I would contact your local reputable classic car restorers and ask their advice on the best restorer for fixing convertible roofs and take the car to them for inspection. The Eos roof mechanism is similar [with enhancements due to the change in technology over the years] to the mechanisms on current and earlier power-operated roofs on "soft-top" convertibles. If my memory is correct, the first electric-over-hydraulic power roof systems date back to the late 1950's/early 1960's on some Ford USA vehicles [Ford Galaxy convertible??]. Rolls-Royce used a similar system on their R-R/Bentley MPW/Corniche convertibles from around 1967.
You will always find enthusiast forums such as this one and other VW technical forums a great help if you have problems with having your car properly attended to by your dealer.

Kind regards
David

Wrong...... It was the Ford Thunderbird and not the Galaxy  .

The 1959 Thunderbird and Fairlane 500 had a power-operated soft-top which folded into the passenger compartment but was not covered. The next Thunderbird model in 1961 had a fully rectractable roof into the boot [trunk].

The following link shows a 1962 Thunderbird convertible closing its roof - this was the great-grandparent of the Eos folding roof:

Don't anyone dare mention "there is nothing new under the sun" :) .

Wow! We need about 20 inches behind the car to operate the top mechanism and that looks like it needs 20 inches behind and 5 feet above!

That's progress for you but is consistent with the great-grandparent status of the mechanism :) .
