Well, after only having this new Eos a little over 2 weeks....I got rear-ended today. I was just a short distance from home and stopped at a crosswalk to allow people to cross....and the young girl driving the old Ford Focus behind me did not notice I had stopped and plowed right into me....It drove me forward but luckily I did not hit the people crossing the road!!

Despite her car looking very heavily damaged....bumper hanging off....coolant everywhere...headlights hanging out....engine hood crinkled up...My Eos just had a damaged bumper. The first thing I thought was that the roof mechanism would be busted...the roof had been down at the time. All worked properly though.

I took it to the repair place and they could only find a slight crack in the bumper. They pulled out the dents in the bumper and now it looks fine except for a couple of paint gouges. $1400 is the repair estimate...new bumper and painting it etc. At least we can drive the car....they get the new bumper in and paint it and we show up when they are ready to install it.

I guess it could be worse. I even know the father of the girl who hit me. I feld kinda bad for her...she kept saying sorry and started to cry. I told her perhaps it was a good lesson and that nobody was hurt and it might save her something worse down the road.

Still...I keep relaying it in my head....I was on a silly errand and perhaps I should have checked who was coming behind me before I stopped.....hindsight....

Hopefully the new bumper will match and look fine...

Apparently these are tough little cars!!!

Someone rear ended me (but not as hard I think) and I had the same result, it did not move the plastic bumper wrap at all only made two little depressions where the other car's front license plate holder screws hit my bumper.

I also had my top down and no ill effects to the top system.

I think Eos has a real 5 MPH impact absorbing rear bumper unlike most cars.

Bet its better that 50-50 there was either a cell phone in operation or 2 girls yacking with the driver not paying attention to the road ahead. There is just NO excuse for someone plowing into the rear of another car that's stopped at a crosswalk.

Same thing happened to be about 10 years ago. I don't know if there was a cell phone involved, but there was to teen girls yacking away en route to school. Daddy coughed up about $1000 because he was worried the insurance people were going to jack his rates up.

I wondered if there was a cell phone involved. I know her father so he is coughing up $1400 to replace my rear bumper for the same insurance reasons. I only hope that the new bumper will match as well as the original bumper. At least they paint it before they put it on the car and I can drive the Eos until the new bumper is ready.

glad everyone's ok.
Do any of you have problems with the back up sensor not working proporly or the roof not going up or down after the collision?

My vehicle doesn't have the back up sensors so that wasn't an issue. The damage seems to be limited to the bumper. Actually, other than a couple of paint gouges that look more like black blobs....the vehicle looks pretty good. Casual inspection wouldn't detect any problems. The bumper has a split on one side where it attaches to the frame. So they need to replace the bumper. I gather it is a fairly common and relatively easy thing for the auto shops to do.

The roof mechanism was unaffected....thankfully!!!

This experience is very reassuring for other Eos owners - a bumper that works rather than being a simple cosmetic item.

I would advise getting your car outside in strong sunlight and position it alternately so you can look along both sides of the car with reflected light from the sun. This will show up any ripples in the outer body shell caused by shock loadings transferred to the body structure from the bumper bar on impact. It is not unusual for relatively low speed impacts to cause rippling in the outer shell away from the impact zone. These ripples are not always looked for at the time and if they are found afterwards; the insurance companies will try and claim it was not related to the original accident

Nice bumper

I am so gald to hear that the roof is in working order. My biggest fear is getting rear ended, my top is always down and people in Southern Indiana, USA, do not pay attention. (Probably could be said for Americans in general, but I won't digress)
Nice to know that VW was actually thinking about this is issue, the same can't be said for other quirks that seem to be inherent with our cars!
