No offense intended to anyone, however I design interior products for most OEM's. In my opinion I do not like the fake wood. As I say, this is just my and other Engineers opinions. Our favorite is the brushed nickel, or carbon fiber look. But I know there will probably always be the wood trim option. I just thought it would be nice to let everyone know a little trivia history for the reason the wood look was introduced.
Many years ago, the auto manufactures actually made the first prototype vehicle interiors out of hand carved wood. That was the easiest material to form to sculpted surfaces without expensive, and time consuming tooling. Today we can rapid prototype near exact shapes from our CAD models in days rather than weeks. The vehicle interior panels went from wood prototypes, to metal production, and now plastic. Many people did not like plastic as they interpreted plastic as cheep, and not durable. In reality the plastic offered the less expensive multiple options for styling. Then in time there was a few materials that were developed to allow electroplate options. The method for the other looks (wood, carbon fiber) is insert molded applique, or adhesive preformed applique's. Geoffa1 nice job on the application of the trim, the wood is just not for my personal interest.
