Well, I gone and done it - plastic stick on wood in my Eos - but I happen to like it.

Its a much nicer way of marking something as yours, than what dogs do on trees!!

It is a kit from ExoticWoodTrim in the States, who are the only ones to do a Right Hand Drive Kit for an Eos.

As I said, I like it - what do you think? :D

Looks tastefully done. Do you have to do anything to prep the surface so the wood trim sticks (forever)?

Yes,
the kit comes with alcohol and primer wipes. Everything was stuck over the existing surfaces, except for the door spears, which couldn't curve enough.

I had to remove the inner door panels, drill out the spears and replace them with the mouldings from the kit. This came up really well - looks like it was meant to be.

Good job, but also not for me. I did one of these to a '99 Durango and after the "blush" faded, I got to the point where I wondered why I did it.

This comes under "Different strokes for different folks".

I ordered a similar kit from the same company about 7 or 8 years ago for a Passat I was driving at the time. But when it arrived and I actually saw it in person, I never put it on and just gave the kit away to the guy who bought the car from me a few months later. I recall him saying that he would most likely not be fitting it either...

How easy is it to remove? ;)

Jeez, make up your minds guys, do you want easy to remove or last for ever?

I'll confess that the photos aren't the best, but I was in a hurry to get away for the weekend. - I will say that 4 people looked at the Eos while I was away, and after viewing the interior, the word classy was mentioned by 3 of them - they may not have taste - but I still felt vindicated. Some photos without the sun throwing shadows will be forthcoming.

It wasn't so much the appearance that put me off, more the feel. If I recall, the set I bought was very thick, protruding about 3-5mm, thereby making the switches difficult to use (well, this is what I imagined would happen, and that's why I didn't install it...). It also fely very plastic, even rubbery, but maybe they have upgraded the material they use?

The most important thing is that you like it - enjoy :)

Yes, its about 3mm thick, of which 0.8mm is the adhesive tape, but they heat form all of the edges witha radius of about 6mm, so its actually only about 2mm thick at the edge. I don't know what the switch set up was on your previous car, but this thickness doen't interfere at all on the Eos.

The rubbery surface is a polyurethane coating over the woodgrain foil to protect it from scratching, its also what enables the curved edges to be heat set in.

I guess the feel of it is a personal thing, but I don't spend a lot of time feeling my dash - and I will comment that one of the most common complaints I read in road tests of cars here is that of hard plastic surfaces in the interior.

No offense intended to anyone, however I design interior products for most OEM's. In my opinion I do not like the fake wood. As I say, this is just my and other Engineers opinions. Our favorite is the brushed nickel, or carbon fiber look. But I know there will probably always be the wood trim option. I just thought it would be nice to let everyone know a little trivia history for the reason the wood look was introduced.
Many years ago, the auto manufactures actually made the first prototype vehicle interiors out of hand carved wood. That was the easiest material to form to sculpted surfaces without expensive, and time consuming tooling. Today we can rapid prototype near exact shapes from our CAD models in days rather than weeks. The vehicle interior panels went from wood prototypes, to metal production, and now plastic. Many people did not like plastic as they interpreted plastic as cheep, and not durable. In reality the plastic offered the less expensive multiple options for styling. Then in time there was a few materials that were developed to allow electroplate options. The method for the other looks (wood, carbon fiber) is insert molded applique, or adhesive preformed applique's. Geoffa1 nice job on the application of the trim, the wood is just not for my personal interest.

I really like the aftermarket dash kits and plan on getting the "Brushed Aluminum" kit for my black interior Eos.

I also think that the wood kits look great in beige interiors.

Brown and black are not complimentary colors from a designer stand point.

Overall, the Eos is a sports vehicle rather than a luxury vehicle. As a result, the more modern dash kits tend to look better, In My Humble Opinion.

I am definitely not the last word in auto design. Just stating what I would and would not do.

The main thing for any mod is that the person doing the mod likes the results. Afterall, an automobile, for a man especially, is a very personal statement. I suppose for some women too.

David,
I have a white EOS with beige interior and I installed a 5 piece only kit in a light burlwood that is just enough wood to give a luxury look, but not over the top. You are right, really gave the interior a luxury look.
