I've only had my about 3 weeks and have not had any leaks yet. I'm in the Seattle weather so we do get and have had some rain since I picked up the car. I do keep it in the garage which limits exposure to rain while I'm not driving. One place where I have seen some complaints about leaks (and I've had them myself) is when you unlock the doors, the front windows automatically roll down about a 1/4 inch or so. If it's raining, there will be a slight dribble that will come in. Of course, the same thing happens when you shut the engine off. The reason for this automatic drop down is to insure that the window seal won't stick when you try to open the door. With the windows up, they have a fairly tight seal to prevent rain and wind from coming in. I think this is a good idea.
Re the complaints (which I haven't seen), it's been my experience that people who have something go wrong complain VERY loudly. The much greater number of people who don't have the problem don't even take the time to review the item.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that VW would be very careful about selling a car that leaked in great numbers or high percentage of sales. I didn't see the grey interior at my dealer. He only had the black and beige. I just traded in a car with black and for now, had enough of that color. IMHO, the beige is very attractive and give the interior of the car a lighter look.
Have you given or explored the option of buying the car in the US? I realize you would have to pay the VAT tax or whatever you call it, when you reentered Canada. Still, I would think you could save some money going that route and get your grey interior to boot.
I have the Lux edition and think the car is great. Drives as well or maybe better than any car I've owned and I've owned a lot. This is vehicle 21 in my history. My lifetime insurance company keeps track of such data and that's the only reason I know this is number 21.
