Hi folks ... Here in Florida it is increasingly hard to find non-ethanol gasoline, and in fact state law says it is all to be phased out by 2010. So far, ethanol has not touched my car's fuel tank ... but eventually I won't be able to drive out of state to refuel. Does anyone have any specific information about how an ethanol blend will affect my EOS? Are there fuel additives I could use to offset the effect? Thanks in advance for the advice....

Ethanol has high anti-knock quality due to its high octane number, and high latent heat of evaporation, which decreases the compressed gas temperature during the compression stroke. In addition to the effect of latent heat of evaporation, the difference of combustion products compared with gasoline further decreases combustion temperature, thereby reducing cooling heat loss. As a result, torque and thermal efficiency increase compared to gasoline.

basically, do not worry about it! :)

Here in Illinois like in most states the gas sold is ethanol blend of 10% ethanol max. In a few states, Iowa for one sells E30 (30% ethanol) which is sold as midgrade and was cheaper than regular. I'm not sure VW would recommend this for use. There is of course E85 (85% ethanol) which cannot be used in any VW as it is too harsh chemically on parts of the fuel system. Those who were getting fuel with no ethanol, you were very lucky, but thoes days are almost over.

Yes, we have 10% blend here too...

But I read somewhere - I thought it was on this forum but I can't find it now - that ethanol could muck up the fuel injectors. Is 10 percent too small a concentration to make a difference? That's been my chief concern, any thoughts on this from you engine experts?

I can only say that we only get the ethanol blended fuel(up to 10% ethanol) here to meet EPA pollution requirements. We have have it for at least 20 years and haven't had any problems with any of my cars so far. With the new requirements the Obama administration is proposing, I think everyone will end up with the same emission controls in all 50 states and probably ethanol blend gas.
