They used some Photoshop trickery on their photos to emphasis height change. Google air suspension/ride height adjustment. Some Audi 4WDs have it and it seems more common on cars with off road capability.

AFIK balloons are fitted inside softer springs which are inflated by a small air compressor. Older systems used hydraulics. There are procedures in VCDS diagnostics for calibrating and levelling the ride height for each wheel. But I wouldn't expect a very large range of adjustment or suspension performance equal to a fixed suspension system? You can get electronic shocks and I would guess they marry these up to the airbag springs electronically. e.g lower ride height = harder shocks and vice versa.
