I Have a 2008 EOS and want to buy the IPOD adapter for my car. Can anyone advise. I called the local dealer in NY and it cost around $160.00 but was told it will not charge the IPOD touch. My radio does not have the navigation systen just the single cd player. I have checked a few spots on the web but wanted a second opinion.

Thanks

Okay well let me say I bought the car in the summer of 2007 but it was the 2008 model and it did not come installed. The adapter come from the back of the radio and sits in the glovebox on my car.

I think you'll find its Apple not VW that is at fault.

Even my portable docking station will charge my old nano but not my newer model.

I have a brand-new-in-the-box OEM iPod adapter from VW, never installed, never used for anything. Retail is $160, but I'd be willing to let it go way cheaper if you want it. I don't check in here often, but if you want to hit me off-line, I'd be happy to chat or send pics if you want them. Email is braverman/earthlink/net

Let me know. Take it easy!

Try one of Griffins adapters. They have a couple that have an AUX jack and will also charge the Touch. There is also one that has a remote that will attach to the steering wheel. I have the basic one and it works great.

Hi,

I am in the UK, so things might be different - but probably not. I had an iPODS adapter put in my car ('09 spec) - the original version, installed in the compartment between the front seats had just been discontinued - and I also found it does not charge my wife's i-Phone but it does charge (and work with) my i-POD touch (and also my old mini).

Yes, the fault is Apple, not VW. However, I have to say that the functionality and information available is extremely limited (it comes with "track 1 .. et seq... but nothing else, and takes over control of the iPOD, so you cannot yank it out and change settings, albumn etc. without disconnecting.

But it is not bad, I suppose, but not worth the money.

Hope thishelps

agree with chip - iPod adapter in glove box sucks

It seems like there may be several possible iPod adapter options out there, but I had the dealership install the in-glove-box version in my new 09 Eos Komfort (there were supposed to get me one that had it installed on the dock, but whatever). once installed, it basically acts like you have your iPod connected to your computer for syncing - i.e. the iPod controls are disabled and the iPod charges. the problem is that all you can do on my Eos model (no NAV) is play the last selected iPod playlist on random. you cannot pick specific songs, artists or even switch to a playlist other than the one you were last listening to. i find this to be of minimal value. the only thing better than using an AUX cable is that the iPod gets charged while you drive. furthermore, the connector cable is very sensitive and because my iPod is a couple years old, the connection sometimes is not tight enough for the radio to recognize that my iPod is connected. since its in the glove box, you have to somehow make sure its firmly secured in order to get it to stay connected.

overall, this product sucks and the people at the dealership even admitted so. i'm getting my money back for it and using the money to buy an aftermarket product that either uses the AUX jackor the power plug in the car or both.

i also wonder how folks with iPhones would benefit by having their device in the glove box, if it would even work with this cable (which i doubt).

don't recommend you get this version. maybe the one in the compartment next to the driver seat where the aux cable is would be better, not sure.

Thats strange, I have an oem iPod adaptor. Yes it locks the ipod from use, yes it shows track numbers not track info, but I can access 5 playlists from my stereo controls plus what is currently playing. This gives me plenty of variety :)

I had the same problem...

...well, kinda.

But I took the advice from this poster:
------------
There is an MDI iPod cable. Order part number 000 051 446 C. It's about $40 to $65 and your local dealer can order it. Price depends on where you shop. Just go to the dealer and order that part. It's an MDI cable with a dock connector. The cable gives you full integration when you plug it into the iPod.

Ask your dealer first since they can order it for you. It's in stock at the warehouse but they have to order it. This site also has it as well. Hope this helps.

This particular cable keeps my ipod touch charged. It does NOT however charge my iphone.
