I,ve just purchased an Ipod to go with the factory fit Ipod docking staion in my armrest. Any tips on how you get to know what tracks are been played mine just shows 99 tracks under each of the six cd positions on the CD/Radio display on the dash ? there must be a way of knowing what is going to play isnt there ?

If there is a way I'd like to know also - been playing around with mine this week and it's frustrating!

One thing I have found though is that it only SHOWS track numbers between 01 and 99, but it will PLAY more than 99 tracks! If you play Track 99 it will click back to show 01, and count up again, but will actually be playing Tracks 100 and upwards.

Cheers

As far as I can tell the iPod connection is a bit of a joke. The only way round the issue of display is to create 6 play lists, number 6 appears to the sum of all lists. So only 5 actually work. I tend to put an album or two on each playlist and I can negotiate reasonably from there.

There is one real bug though. I have an iPod bought for the car so it stays there all the time apart from uploads. If its left plugged in the radio unit forgets what playlist its playing (much the same as myself!) and defaults to cd 6.

Sorry can't be more help.

I've got a pdf file of the instructions of the ipod connection sent to me by VW UK. If anyone wants them, PM me your email address and I'll send them to you.

(Decent instructions but just not a great accessory!!)

Be interesting to see them, and possibly helpful for other future users - the VW set up in the manual wasn't especially clear - I loaded up the CD Changer with 6 CD's, then loaded up the iPod and wondered why it didn't work! Bit of a pain that although you have the equipment to have CD changer AND iPod, you actually can't use both together! Has all the hallmarks of a bodge and it still hurst to pay £150 for what is really a lash-up!!

Cheers

Please can I have it too. I am the new and very proud owner but am beginning to despair of the dealership.Apart from other issues with delivery dates etc.,ordered a Cd player and got an Ipod thingie, as you do. Had a moan and they decided to buy me an Ipod. Picked it up today and I don't think it fits in the connection in the armrest.

Elin,

If you have got a new generation nano then it fits using the adaptor supplied but the adaptor I was supplied with was for the old model nano which has the connection in the center as does the 5th generation iPod, not the offset connector required .
You need to slide the nano partly into the adaptor, push the nano onto the connector and slide the adaptor down gently to hold it in place. If its in correctly you should see the Audi software logo appear on the iPod screen and it will then connect to the stereo unit.

Anyone noticed that the maximum volume with the ipod connection is much lower than with the radio ? I have the dynaudio system and I want it louder than the max volume with the top down. Any solutions ? Can you add an amplifier to the dynaudio system ??

the european spec ipods have a volume limiter on them, there is a hack out to get rid of it and so improve the output levels
just did a quick search and came up with this

I have discussed the iPod adaptor with the MD of my dealership and he says that a number of complaints have gone into VW from it's own staff who have the adaptor in their VW company cars.

If anything happens, it should be a software upgrade to the head unit to interpret the MP3 Idtags, as iTunes and other MP3 players do.

Not holding my breath though.

No problem, PM me your email address and I'll send it to you (or anyone else).

As I've said before (possibly on here!), I'm getting less bothered about the poor interface of the ipod connection. The PDF file explains how the system works and now I just make playlists on the ipod. It's like the good(!) old days making compilation tapes. Because I'm taking a bit of time searching through about 42gig(up to now) of music, I'm listening to things I've not listened to before or not listened to for years.
It is still a very poor way to spend £150 on an accessory, but that's probably why my dealer said I could have it for free.
