Hi,

I have a VW EOS 2.0 TDI DSG with MFD DVD Navigation System and 6x CD changer mounted in the armrest.

I want to install an iPod Adapter (which I already payed) to connect my iPod Video 60Gb, but VW-Portugal now says VW EOS iPod Adapter is not compatible with the version of the iPod I have.
According to VW-Portugal the iPod EOS Adapter only works with iPod Photo old series.......

Anyone has this configuration working?

thanks in advance

Never tried - I used an old click wheel iPod from back in the day, exclusively for my car!

I'll try my 80Gb video and let you know, but from what I can see and the adapters I've been given I'd say it will work fine!

30 GB Video Ipod works great

I have USA 07 EOS with VW IPOD Adapter and my 30 GB Video Ipod works great. Am curious if the new IPODs will work, they also have the dock connector so there is at least some hope.

We used an iPhone yesterday with the armrest dock. Set it to play first and then droped it in. I would imagine that the iPod Touch will also work. I also imagine that if this were Microsoft, each of its products would have a different connector in a different location. :p

.

yesterday I went do VW dealer in Lisbon/Portugal to install my iPod adapter, but that was not possible.
To connect the iPod adapter the connection to the 6x CD changer mounted in the armrest must me disable!

So I have to choose between the iPod and the 6x Cd Changer.

According to the WV dealer we can´t have both devices working at the same time.

no comments
very disapointed

Ayala,
Thats not correct, I have the 6 cd changer mounted in the arm rest and an ipod connection in the glove box. This was all installed by VW.
My original order was for the ipod connection, but when the car was delivered it had the cd changer fitted. My VW dealership then added the ipod connection in the glove box. Btw it's a really neat discreet job. The only issue this sometimes kicks up is the cd player needs re-setting this is as simple as putting the player on cd 6 track 9 and holding the fast forward button for 3 seconds.
If you want both cd and ipod then it is possible.

jamcar,
I wonder if you would know if the iPod Shuffles work with the interface they install in the glovebox also?

There seems much talk of every iPod under the sun in this forum bar the Shuffle (Gen 2 Im talking about)

Any ideas?

iPod

Dont know details of iPod models but my 6 month old iPod 30GB with video works fine, no problems at all.

Only thing is that I have to wedge it into the carrier with its case as it does not sit tight in either of the adaptors supplied !!

O dear... this is not good...
I use it more than the CD (2008 in Aus offers mp3 compatability too!) on the way to the gym.... and every time I come back from the gym.

Didn't want to swap it out for another iPod, as the new Shuffles are super small, and literally clips on to your gym top!

I was hoping it had the standard little round auxillary hole that caters for the 3.5mm stereo cable, that may do the trick for the Shuffle.

I have another mp3 player - a Creative Labes Zen thingy - same principle though...it wants the same sort of cable.
Wouldnt this do the trick? Have a look.....

I have the standard iPod adapter sold by VW installed in my EOS but it leaves MUCH to be desired. I have successfully used all of the following iPods with it:

1st Gen iPod nano
4th Gen iPod photo
1st Gen iPhone

My questions is, has anyone successfully found a working solution that allows you more interaction with the iPod while driving. The VW adapter disables the iPod all together and you can only select between 5 preset playlists or Randomly listen to anything else from all of your music. What about Podcasts? How do I listen to a specific song?

My only fix is to pull the plug from the iPod and then select the song and quickly plug the adapter back in... this is LAME :(

Suggestions?

gb3... are you serious?!
That sucks. Big time.

I think its becoming apparent we need a USB connector to this iPod interface. It would mean you had a universal standard & should be able to play mp3's, wma's cda rips etc...
You could always sing to yourself as you drove? ;)

Davey,
I doubt that a USB connector will help with iPods (don't know about the Shuffle) as I believe that USB connected MP3 players would require a standard folder structure of MP3 files (ie folder/sub-folder/MP3-file). Standard iPods do not conform to this structure, which is one of the reasons you require iTunes to load music.

According to the EOS manual, the aux-in connector (the 3/8" socket that you would use to connect most MP3 players to the EOS's radio) is now situated in the storage bin between the seats. However, this is not installed in Australian models (but there is a blank in the storage bin).
I would have liked to have used that connector, plus the 12V socket at the back of the bin, to connect and charge any MP3 player.

If anyone in other parts of the world knows of the wiring to the aux-in connector in the centre storage bin, or the previous models' option of the glovebox connector, I, and I am sure Davey and others, would be grateful if you could share that information.

Finally, if you have the RCD500 radio with MP3 compatability fitted, you could burn and load 6 CDs of MP3s.
This would give you 4GB of music (more than a Shuffle) with the added benefit of displaying track, album and artist names on the radio, something VWs' iPod option does not give you.

Thanks again Leo - sem to be replying to your posts regualrly :)

It was more from a convenience & portability front that I wanted the connectivity for my iPod shuffle - I currently plug it into the 3 series on the way to the gym, unplug it when I get there & clip it to my top.
Convenience with a capital C :)

Mp3 burining is an ok solution - Id really like to persue getting my Shuffle operating. There has to be a way...

Thanks Leo
