Luckily I am ok, as is the car, just a couple of minor scratches on the rear driver side bumper and light panel.
His car is a different matter - a bmw x/z 3, with a tea plate dent in the driver door and a scratch on the wing mirror.

Seeing I was reversing, 1) my sensors weren't beeping, 2) he cant have been looking either 3) I wouldn't want his car in a motorway accident!

Right, so couple of questions,
1) contest this via insurance - or his garage say 400 quid
2) why didn't my parking sensors work? they usually start if someone walks anywhere near it, let alone a car!

To top it off, its my birthday!! arrrrggh

Can't advise on the insurance, but you need to notify them (check your policy). It won't affect anything as long as you don't make a claim... You need to make sure that guy doesn't claim either if you do settle it personally, just be careful with the legalities... Technically he may try and claim off your insurance...

The beeps should work assuming the first initial beep was heard on engaging reverse. If this beep isn't heard, then they may not be working correctly..

Just handed it all over to the insurance company, this weren't quite adding up - the nos plate he gave me over the phone is not the one I wrote down - and I wrote it down twice! Far too keen not to involve the insurance company too.

No claims is protected and no increase in renewal premium, so that's fine. Just figured that if he was going to try and scam me on repairs he might try some other way too

Re parking sensors, I cannot say with 100% guarantee that it beeped when i put it in reverse, I guess you get so used to it that you dont always pay attention. STill, I will put hand on heart/bible that it never beeped once in the bump saga.

Think I'll phone garage and get it checked

Hummm sounds very dodgie to me... insurance sounds like the way to go!!!

If you were both going q bit "quick" perhaps you hit before the sensors could beep?! Or in the moment... did not hear them? As you said, prob best to get the garage to check... dont want to risk them not working when you next put the roof down!!

You can just test it yourself....

1) put in reverse - does it beep once?
2) Ask someone if your reverse light comes on
3) reverse towards something flat and parallel with the back of the car like a wall

If you get close, just stop and visually check....

Do you have manual or dsg?

Judging by the description of your damage vs his, his may have already been there.... Maybe he was looking for a lovely innocent person to fix the damage for him.... Was his car old?

The reverse parking sensors are beeping when i put it into reverse, and when something is in the vicinity, I just dont understand why they didn't beep when there's a blooming car there! - guessing there could be an intermittent prob?
I was only crawling so am disturbed that his car just dented like that! He said it was new, but having checked the VRN its a 1999 bmw z3. Wondering whether its too low for the sensors!! lol

Still not impressed though!

Hmmmm, They haven't made the Z3 for over four years!! The Z4 came out in 2003!!

I think he's trying it on a bit to be honest!

It doubt it's too low... Maybe he came at you faster than you thought!!

...but the only positive to come from this (grab hold of the small things) is that the EOS came off better than the BMW!!!

Sorry to hear that Anna, not really the birthday surprise you wanted eh? think you are doing the best thing re the insurance, lots of things not adding up, sounds like he could well be chancing his arm.

Sorry to hear about your bump. My Leonie Blue 2.0 TDI Sport was parked at a friend's house a few weeks ago and his wife reversed a RAV 4 into the passenger door. Last week some idiot reversed into my drives front wing outside my house and did not stop. One new door later(£900.00 compliments of my friend's insurance.) and £250.00 to fix the wing. ( My own pocket.) Looks like new again. Still feels violated though.

My biggest fear is damage which could affect the roof... For example, side or rear impact when the roof is stowed in the boot!!!

That is my worst nightmare!

I don't want to let any dealer near my roof.. Would rather change it myself!!!!

They are actually installed into the car in one piece, so not really made to be modified by amateur dealers!!

Well, he was definetly trying his luck, the quote the garage have given the insurance company is much less than what the driver told me the damage was, so although it would probably have been just as cheap not to go via the insurance, its much less stress and the arrogant twit doesn't get the extra money he was obviously after to buy new hideous t-shirts!
