Took my Eos in to have a minor warrentee job carried out 7 weeks ago, They told me the roof has a leak (apart from a few drops when washing the car, I wasnt aware it was a "leak" as such). There was water in the spare wheel well, and the carpet behind the drivers seat was damp.

Anyway they had the car for over 2 weeks while they ripped the internals of the boot all the back seats/side panels out to replace lots of rubber bits.

I got the car back, cleaned the inside (properly) as they had only done half a job valeting my beige leather, and sponge washed the outside. Guess what... still leaking!!

Took car straight back and havent seen it since. They have replaced and/or re-bonded more rubber gaskets, water tested it - still leaks, theyre now gonna try a set of more updated parts. Further more, it seems that one problem is leading to another, one of the rear side windows wont stay up as its suddenly pressing too hard against the roof and dropping back down. This was fixed by a new motor, but then the window had to be re-aligned which made the union with the front side window out, so now the door had to be stripped to adjust the front window.

Then they decide to update the main seal at the top of the windscreen rail so all the interior lights and sunvisors have been removed. Guess what, it still leaks. They are now just waiting for some apparently new parts again and cant really say when it will be ready.

My gripe is the length of time its all taking. I also feel like my car is a guinea pig case. They try one part, which when it doesnt work, they try a more updated part, why not just fit the later part in the first place.

I have now said I dont want the car back. I paid £29000 for a new car which I wanted to remain in "factory condition" at least until the warrentee runs out. My car now feels to me like a second hand car as its only 16 months old but has had so much work done to it.

Yet they have said they would only give me £15000 back for the car or would order me a new one but I would have to pay £10000.

I am discusted with VW and dont really no what to do. I am still without my car and dont feel that my retailer is on my side, but rather is siding with VW. Clearly my car is defective but it just seems to have taken a while to show itself. Yet they say as its over a year old I dont qualify for a straight replacement or full refund.

Im currently paying £500 a month on HP to drive round in a loan car!!!

NOT HAPPY, what do you guys think?

Hi James,

I can fully relate to your issues, mine has been back to the dealer more than 10 times now with various issues which I don't want to elaborate on here however I would recommend you have a discussion with VW customer services about the issues you are experiencing. I am not going to list the number on this forum however if you do a web search for it you will find it.

The issues with mine were dealt with superbly by my dealer and mine is now 100% better and fully repaired.

I feel you are being dealt with unfairly in my experience - just my viewpoint.

Sounds like the dealer doesn't know how to fix it... Have the seals been lubricated? If not, that could be the cause of the leak...

I think you should try another dealer! Ask on here for some that are not too far away from you, but ones that come recommended... I can recommend Citygate in Colindale, but I know that is too far for you!

I expect I use the same dealer as jamesyboy5593 - although my own experiences with them have been great. That said, I've been lucky enough not to suffer any serious problems with my car, although they did undertake some warranty work a couple of months ago.

Still no joy, were fitting latest parts today. Its the uncertainty I don't like, no one really knows what the problem is, how to fix it, how long it will take! Yet I'm supposed to just be happy I have a loan car, don't think so.

Yeah a 20K Tiguan insn't a bad motor as a loaner, but its no Eos! Mind you its doesn't leak!!

Going to another dealer is not an option realistcally, as they are local to both my home and work. I just think that either the technician is a total buffoon, or the cars just a total dud and they're trying everything they can to not have to take it back off me!

A possible cause for this problem has been reported by our Hawaian resident contributor Lopaka [thanks mate]:

Go to the end of post #1 in the following thread:

http://www.vweosclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1996

"Figured leak problem out also. It was the drain tubes. If you put down the top, after washing or a hard rain, even though the car is dry, water remains in the tubes and drips into the trunk as you are lowering the roof! No leak in trunk, just residual water in drain tubes in roof panel."

I think this could explain a lot of the reported "untraceable" leaks - nothing like a tropical "wet" [monsoon] season to test a car's waterproofing.

This is easy to check as you can use a medical needle to squirt water down the tubes and see if it coes out under the car! I do this from time to time...

Sometimes they can get blocked with dirt, but they generally shouldn't!

Leaking roof repair

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your Eos but in a way relieved I am not alone. My car has been in the garage for over a month in total (3 times) with said water leaks with roof. Has had all new seals in roof and down side of front doors, all new carperts but on getting it back on Monday still having trouble with front windscreen icing up and condensation on frosty mornings and evenings. Am convinced there is moisture in car somewhere for this to happen. Have been told it is characteristics of an Eos! Not happy to accept this Spoken to VW Uk and have been told to obtain second opinion which I am doing at another VW garage next week for it to be stripped down again and see if they can throw any light on it.

I know exactly how you are feeling its driving me mad.

I have a leak in my boot at the moment but just thought I would say my boyfriends Polo is just as bad at fogging up and condensation on the windscreen and he just thinks it's a VW thing.

It could be worse - this could be happening to you outside of warranty. My warranty ran out last September. The seals failed this winter and rainwater appears to have shorted the hydraulic pump at one side. The bill is estimated at £1,900 less 10% for sympathy. I might have expected this from a Skoda but not a Volkswagen. I have only just become aware of the extent of the leakage problem through sites like this. The car is obviously not fit for purpose.

Even out of warranty VW should fix it because it is a known fault. Mine was out of warranty at just over 2 (bought on internet so only got 2 year warranty & not the extra 1 year dealer warranty but VW main dealer tried to fix leaks. Just got car back after 2 attempts & 10 weeks. Carpets dry at the moment. Good luck

Hi
I happen to have been one of the frist 2 members to report the issue of leaks, initialy materializing by fog/mist on the inside of the front an rear windscreen, as well as damp carpets and water in the spare wheel.
Was fixed twice already, once by adjusting window height when closing, replacing leaking windshield seal, and drying the car for a full week under heating lamps and hot air blower... The second fix was to replace the drain tubes and adjusting a seal somewhere in teh back pillars.
This seems to have fixed it this time... Until next... Of course can be expected from a car with such a complex structure, yet unacceptable for a €36k initial bill!

Note: All seals lubed twice a year by a pro.

In France, VW offers 2 yrs std wty, and I bought the maximum 2 extra years, for the sole purpose of not having to pay for any roof-related (leaks, mechanism) trouble... It will be over in 18 months and, before then, I will sell my EOS as I don't want to run the risk of having major faults and leaks again... Question is: I can't resolve myself to buy sthg else than a convertible, and would like 4WD+DSG in addition to it.. so hard to decide.. or maybe I'll buy a new EOS, with updated design...

cheers
Fred

Unfortunately, also have various leaks in our 2,5 year young VW EOS and car deteriorates from moisted insulation under front carpets . VW Belgium knows very well the problem but hides against expired warranty period. We love the car but get tired of unresolved problems and absence of customer friendly approach of VW Belgium. The moist and the smell affect the joy of driving this car. I am trying to press VW Belgium and my dealer but sofar everything goes very slow and looks like it will cost me a lot of money... NOT HAPPY AT ALL...
