Car is back at dealers for a second opinion and whilst there VW has issued a four page document acknowledging that they do have problems with the seals. Finally at last it has been acknowledged that there are problems with the seals and it is not me going mad. It has been since November that my car has been in and out of the dealers. Has anyone else heard about this yet?

They have changed boot seals, which were probably the only ones left to change as they found condensation getting into the boot. However after two weeks they have informed us that they have taken photos of all seals and emailed them off to VW and we will have to wait until they get the go ahead from VW to release car.

Have only been given a Polo to drive around but thought it was their policy to supply you with a like for like car!!

"VW has issued a four page document acknowledging that they do have problems with the seals."

I am amazed to see that you advise VW have actually issued a document acknowledging that they do have a problem with leaking seals, who advised you of this was it the dealer. If so are you sure there is not a missunderstanding with what the manufacturers call a "technical bulletin".

All manufacturers issue tech bulletins from time to time as to giving guidance to the dealers technicians on the best or most practical way of undertaking a repair, such bulletins are not an admission of guilt. For example, posted on this site on one of the threads is a document which covers the treating of the seals with Krytox, I am fairly sure this is more than likely a copy of somthing issued by VW to their dealers, this is 4 or more pages long.

Have you actually seen this 4 page document, it would be good if you could get it scanned, say in PDF, post it and let us all have reference to it, good tool to have in hand when you are fighting your corner with the dealer who tells you there is no seal problem.

"thought it was their policy to supply you with a like for like car!!"

Sadly I do not think it is a like ofr like policy when providing a courtesy car.

As far as I am aware the dealer told me that VW had held they hand up and said that they have problems with seals. It was a four page document but I will double check with them today and find out if this is correct.

Very handy. I had my boot seals replaced due to leaking I think. There were also issues with blocked air vents causing water ingress so these were also replaced.

I also am driving about in a Polo - are you claiming a refund for your insurance? My 2l sport engine (Eos) is a hell of a lot more expensive to insure me in than a crappy 1.2l (Polo). I think a refund should be arranged and will be mentioning this when VW customer services call me back.

I am not claiming refund for insurance. I am driving the Polo on the dealers insurance but did have to pay £10 to get rid of £1,000 excess - bit a cheek I think considering it is not my fault car is with them. Also not sure why my thread is listed as moved. Any ideas.

I haven't paid a penny to drive the Polo but they did want £150 to put me in a different bigger and better car. Told them to sod off!

Not sure about your thread being listed as moved though

Rathbod is right... It is just a technical bulletin.. I have it somewhere... It is simply info on how to deal with blocked drain hoses...

Not particularly common. Sorry to sound like a broken record, but lack of seal lubrication is still the biggest culprit. Problem is that the dealers don't seem to know this and decide to dismantle people's cars instead!

Have just spoken to Dealers who say that it is a bulletin which is issued when there is a known fault so other dealers know what to look for, so they are acknowledging there is a problem. However the dealer has still not got the OK to release our car back to us (coming up to three weeks this time around) and the only person at the dealers that can work on our car is now off sick for two weeks - it is becoming a joke. Awaiting call back as they are chasing VW. If not I will contact them direct as I am not waiting another two weeks when apparently they have fixed the leak in the boot so not sure why they have to keep the car.

I am not on the side of the manufacturers, I have insight as I worked for motor manufacturers for over 30 years. I am an Eos owner so I fully understand the frustration and anger expressed on the threads about of all things leaks. But I do suggest caution, I know how it looks but just because the manufacturers have issued a "bulletin" it is not an admission of guilt that they have a problem.

Just so you can follow the thinking, when a new model is launched the manufacturers always supply their dealer networks with training courses and techy manuals on how things should be done, when a simplier and more cost effective processes is found to a repair they often issues update bulletins. The issue of a bulletin is not an admission of guilt and they are designed for internal use, but quite often through frustration the dealers claim they mean other things.

It is hard not to accept there is not a "leak" difficulty, you just need to read what our Eos friends have been posting, but if you try to use this information as leverage in the wrong context against the manufacturer or a dealer, they will just clamp up on you.

Thank you for your comments Rathbod. I was only commenting on what the service department had told me, and yes it is frustrating considering it has been going on for nearly five months but to be honest we only ever found one leak, our problems have been more to do with the inside windscreen freezing up and heaving condensation which the dealers have told us must be due to a water engress. I think all seals have now been replaced with newer versions. Anyway heard last night that today we can have her back as they have had clearance from VW. Appreciate your comments and cant wait to get her back as really do like the car despite our problems.

"Not sure about your thread being listed as moved though"

I noticed that, I think one of the "moderators" moved it from Q&A to the techy section

derek

Mea Culpa - I combined the two threads in different sections on the same topic into one to reduce "clutter".
