My wife and I have a new Blue EOS Komfort and absolutely love it. We live in Central California with lots of sun (& heat), so we have the top down most of the time until it hits over about 103F. My questions are these:

- If you have the top down a lot, what is the frequency do you put the top up? At night? In a store parking lot? Parked in the sun? Etc.

- Has anyone discovered a way to protect the interior from the sun and the elements without putting the top up while parked?

Even though we have a 5 yr warranty, we are reluctant to frequently put the top up, because of all the moving parts.

In the last two months, we have seen 5 on the road. 2 Blue, 1 Red, 1 White & 1 Silver.

If I'm going to be in a movie maybe shopping in a mall for over an hour, I put the top up if it was down. I try not to leave anything of value laying around when I do park with the top down. Even with the top down, I roll all the windows up and lock the doors. I realize someone could reach over the window and manually unlock the doors, but it's just a deterrent. If someone wants to get in, they can even with the top up.

Of course, I wouldn't own an Eos if I lived in NYC. I lived there once in the 80's and had my BMW and another car busted into about 5 times. One of the main reasons I got out of there. One of the cars I owned while in NYC was a TR8 convertible. After it was busted into the first time, I started leaving it unlocked for fear one the the druggies would cut the top to get into it. Almost no one who breaks into cars gets caught or does any time so it's like leaving candy in the streets. The nicer the candy, the more likely it will be broken into. What a way to live!

If u push the button twice, it dead locks the car, so it cant be opened from inside... Never do that when getting petrol if there are kids in the back, cos if something happens, they are trapped!!!

Plus they'd be trapped with a hell of a racket going on because they would have set off the alarm!

I asked the dealer about this when I purchased my car, that is protecting the leather interior, he said the good ole Armor All leather protectant was Fine. I clean em up usually every two weeks, or when they start to look "dry" - e.g. can't see the protectant slight shine on them anymore.

As for leaving the top down, I do in most places I feel are safe and if I am not taking a long time. I even leave it down on the gym parking lot while I work out. I put it up at night - historic St. Louis, or Soulard, does not have much for parking - and it never has been tampered with yet. I do, however, check on it if I am away for any time.

I am looking at putting on a "motion sensor" to the alarm, maybe one of the annoying ones that warn you to back up away from the vehicle. I'd want it to say "Back away from the hot VW convertible" though..... just a thought.

Im getting one of these because i park my car over the road on a drive way with a house thats empty (got permission off the ladys daughter) the lady died so my car being there looks like someone is there.

But the old guy next door to it lets his 5 year old grandson run around my car as you can imagine im not chuffed i've told him that if there is any damamge to my car at all he will be paying for it but he still lets him

Its a shame that they can't do a alarm that lets of cs gas when it goes off that would be brilliant!

I'll get him back one day!

Our Eos is a 3rd car for sunny days only, so I hardly ever put the roof up. I even leave it down when parked in the garage, but will probably put it up for winter storage.

Does anyone know if a third party developed a tonneau cover or the EOS?

I'm not aware of a tonneau cover, but my wife made me this semi-customised cotton fabric cover for storing the car in the garage. I usually order custom covers for my cars, but I realised that with the Eos these wouldn't be any good, because they would be for roof-up use and therefore wouldn't fit properly when the roof was down :)

That looks really good! Your wife could probably make herself a bit of money going in to production with those!
Where do I send the money for mine?

Thanks for the positive feedback, I will let her know what you think :) TBH, it's a pretty straightforward DIY: we bought 12m of the lightest, softest fabric we could find at our local market (cost €24) and then cut it in half to leave 2 x 6m strips. My wife then sewed the two strips together to form one extra wide strip.

I put the roof up on the Eos, we layed the cover over the car and then cut round the 4 corners to stop them touching the floor. She also did some kind of magical stitching around the edges to stop it fraying, but that bit was too technical for me ;)
