Hi All,
My first service was at 14k when the service warning message came up on the dash. It came up again at 24k (only 10k later) called the VW garage and they said I only need the second service at 30k or two years which ever comes first. They asked me to pop in for ten mins and their technician cancelled the service warning message and said bring it back in July when the two years are up. Any one else had anything similar.

Also the new VW recommended synthetic oil is Castrol SLX 5W-30 instead of the more expensive Castrol Edge. Both pass the VW 504 00/507 00 standard. SLX is £12 litre instead of the £15 for Edge.

I insist every year as I do only about 7k a year... However, I also don't believe in long life servicing. The more often you can change the oil, the better. Personally I wouldn't be comfortable going beyond a year.

my EOS is now 18 mth old and has 18'000 km (11'250 miles). VW say they will service it at the first of either 2 years, or 30'000km (~18'750 miles). I check oil and add Castrol Edge by half-liters every now and then (well done it 3 times I believe). Would you recommend insisting to get earlier service or will teh 2 years (should at around 22'000kms or 13'750miles) be ok? Again, only asking for advice or any reference backing up VW or your point of view?

Surely they all have service indicator and the dashboard tells you when the service is due?
Currently mine is telling me a service is due in 500 miles.

Thats true, as it was in my case but VW said 24k was too early for a second service and I should wait till 30k. Who am I to argue!
I see you are on long life as well so what mileage was your last service and what mileage will it be in 500 miles?

Longlife service intervals

FYI - VW web site explains what is meant by longlife service, in summmary the time interval for a service is dictated by your style of motoring:-

"LongLife Service RegimeWe recommend this service if you’re likely to drive more than 25 miles a day, and if you tend to drive in the following way:

Regular long distance driving
Driving at a constant speed with minimum vehicle and engine loading, and minimal towing
Economical driving
This LongLife regime has been made possible due to the development of new Volkswagen engines with the latest technically advanced long life oil. These engines use built-in sensors that continually monitor the oil quality, making it possible to enjoy reliable and confident motoring for up to a maximum of 20,000* miles or 24 months (whichever occurs first)."

As far as I know I'm not on Long Life.

Still 5 months to go (registered on 14/07/2006)..

I seem to have been lucky and have had very few problems with my Eos (no leaks).

Maybe I'm tempting providence saying that though...

If it starts costing money it'll have to go.

As far as I know I'm not on Long Life.
Don't recall my Dealer offering me any choices when I got the car...

My dealer explained that long life is the standard and its only if you say you do a low mileage that they suggest fixed service intervals. You could check your last service bill to see what oil they put in.

It is all up for interpretation... Personally, I like fresh oil once a year... It is personal preference in the same way as filling up with ESSO instead of supermarket fuel... Some people will agree and some people will not...

My service indicator shows my first service is due in 36 days or 200 miles. That would be 1 year after I took delivery and 9400 miles. My local main dealer have told me that all they will do is a general lube job ( not roof I believe ) and a "walk round" visual inspection, all for a mere £140!

Two questions : ( a ) is this a little pricey?
( b ) my manual says the oil should be changed at 10k miles or 1 year, surely then this should be included?

What have others experienced?

My first service states:-

* lubrication service
* filter element
* 4.6 litres of Castrol SLX

which, with the £10 insurance for the courtesy car, came to a grand total of £131.

evening all

just had my service today

cost was £148

including filter , seals and long life oil ohh and a full valet

so the car came out nice and clean ready for 2 hours of top down motoring

just a note my car was set at time and distance for service and considering i do 70 miles per day. i had to ask the service guy when he reset the service indicator could he set it for long life.

Hi all

Thanks everyone for the info on servicing.

My first ( interim ) service included lube, oil change and visual inspection and actually came to £133, including free wash and valet.
I asked about oiling the seals and was told that they recommended it to be done every month! ( although they doubted anyone actually did it ) or after washing.............oh and they recommended hand wash only as automatic car washes could damage the seals.

Looks like we will all be out washing our cars on Sundays in future!

367 days? A full year's warning of service due?!

Yeah lucky me eh! he's not had a first service yet because he's only done 6700 miles so far but wasn't sure if i should take him for his first service before then.
