Hello All - I'm the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area in the US. A little background. I had a Golf in the late 80's and it is arguably my favorite car second only to a Mazda Miata I had. I LOVE driving, especially a convertible. So after being without a decent handling car or convertible since 2000 I thought I would like to get the following; a convertible that can seat 4 and is fun to drive. I decided that 30k was my top limit.

I had pretty much settled on the MINI Cooper S when I went to the Dallas Auto Show and stumbled upon the EOS. I was very intrigued. It was a VW, and a hard-top convertible. After driving the EOS and the MINI I can say that the EOS is a much better car, in fact there really is no comparison. The MINI is overpriced. IMO the EOS is more comparable to the 40k convs like the BMW, Audi, Saab, and Volvo. I love driving the EOS. It is mucho fun... and yet...

I must admit that we are not really taken with the looks of the EOS, especially the profile. I also don't really like any of the colors. My wife likes the Eismer Blue (Light Blue), its a bit too feminine for me. We like the Red, but both agree that all red vehicles scream "give me a ticket", especially if you're 'accidentally' speeding! ;) So I guess right now we've settled on the Silver w/ Black Interior.

But then I come back to my criteria.
Convertible - Yes, actually a BIG yes because it's got a cool top and it really is sedan like with the top up. This car really is the best of both worlds.
Seat 4 - Pretty good rear seat room, I have children in the 9-12 year old range so they should be good there.
Fun to Drive - resounding yes! And I plan on doing the APR chip upgrade (I haven't told my wife that yet!)

I'm about 2 weeks away from having the funds free to make the purchase... just not sure yet.

Any thoughts or opinions?!?!

I'm happy with the Base (Turbo) model, as the other ones have nothing I have any real interest in.

Don't know how long you have been following this forum, but if you are looking for the base model with a manual trans, it will take some looking as they aren't that common here. Most of the US Eos are being equipped with the DSG. You will need to find a dealer you are comfortable and have them do a search for one equipped the way you want. Or you can go to the VWVortex Eos forum and ask one of the dealer salepeople that hang out there to do a search for you. They are pretty good for that. Just tell them what you require (color, equipment level and location) and they will be more than happy to help you find it. We don't yet have any such thing on this forum. Hopefully one day....

Another option is to search for a certified used one. In Feb. I found an 07 with 14k miles on it that I picked up for 29k. It's a 2.0t with the Lux package and Dynaudio and stickered originally for 36k. The car came with the remainder of the original warranty plus two years additional. While there are not a lot of used ones out there, if you have time and you're patient you can find a deal and not take the original depreciation hit. Also, you can find a nicely equipped 07 for the price of an entry level 08.

Welcome to the site Kong. I had the Mini Cooper Convertable before I saw the EOS - no comparison. Regarding manual versus DSG - have you tried the DSG yourself? I think you will be suprised if you do. Just read some of the other comments on this forum regarding manual v DSG. Good luck what ever you get, if its the EOS then you won't be disapointed.

I went to the dealers in Austin, & Georgetown and they had a pretty good selection. Ended up getting one transfered from a dealer outside Houston. Simply love this car!! Big smile on my face every time I drive it. Good Luck.

Actually a Manual is a must, but there seems to be plenty here in the Metroplex, maybe it's just a market by market issue concerning the lack of Manuals being ordered.

I want the base model (Turbo) as I'm not a bells and whistles guy. Frankly with the EOS holding it's value so well, I'm rather spend what... it appears a few hundred, no more than a thousand or so for a new one.
