I think I just bought mine from mods4cars.com; I'd strongly recommend paying the extra bit for the wiring harness too, though.

I got mine (for a Focus) through www.pcars.com in the US. The exchange rate was quite favourable at the time. The new ones now come with the 'T' harness that should simplify the installation.

I'm looking around for one myself, maybe if there are enough of us, we can get a discount.

Thank you very much for your help. I think I am going to purchase one from emotormania.com, that is a good price. I do have one more question for someone with the top though. How does it work on your remote? Right now, if I single click the unlock button, it unlocks and single click the lock button it locks. What buttons do you use to operate the roof, sunroof and windows? If it is the lock/unlock buttons then how do you lock or unlock your car remotely? I am sure these are silly questions with obvious answers, but I am confused (not surprisingly I am blonde too!)

What does a new Smarttop kit for a Eos cost in pound stirling, US dollars or even Zimbabwe dollars?
Am I the only person who doesn't have this?!?!?! (no surprise there! )

Hi DLG,
No - I haven't got one either & I don't fancy messing around with a load of spaghetti in the boot area. I did ask one of the suppliers of Smart Top if they could recommend someone who would fit it for me but they couldn't, or wouldn't, give a name, only stressing that they would not fit it themselves.
A thought has occurred to me though. If the car has 2 drivers (like mine - my wife also drives) it could prove very costly if my wife, for example, left something solid on one side of the boot with the inside cover latched down & I took the car out the next day on my own & decided to put the roof down? If I was the sole driver then I would only have myself to blame but????......could be the end of a happy relationship!

I take it you are from Zimbabwe.

If you look at the Mods For Cars website in the USA, you will see it is split into US customers and Overseas customers. The price for US customers is cheaper than for overseas customers.

I got mine from GMP Performance, who supplied me at the US price. Their service was very good, and I was very happy with them.

Part of the trick was also to time the purchase with a window when the AU$ was at a good exchage rate with the US$.

Same buttons - you just hold them down till your indicators start flashing.

You also have an option to send a pulse to your horn when you lock or unlock, so that you get an audible chirp to confirm locking or unlocking. This saves you having to listen for the sounds of the locks moving or looking for the indicator flash.

My favorite feature is not the remote top drop, but rather not having to hold the button on the inside of the car to raise or lower the top. One touch is so nice!

Tend to agree with you. Not impressed that the suppliers obviously didn't know how to fit it.

Here are basic info:

Holding down the button in either direction will operate the top as long as the button is held.
In one touch mode the operation is further enhanced as follows:
A short tap on "OPEN" will open the top completely and leave all windows down.

Two short taps on "OPEN" will open the top completely and then raise the windows up.

A short tap on "CLOSE" will close the top completely and raise all windows up.

Two short taps on "CLOSE" will close the top completely and leave all windows down.

A short tap on "CLOSE" with the roof already closed will automatically close the sunroof and all windows.

You can find more information http://emotormania.com/smarttop-manuals-a-catalog/147-volkswagen-steos-manual.html

The programming is done using your center console, if you go through the installation manual it has operation instruction which is simple to follow. Also your lock and unlock will not change unless you change settings. by default it will fully open or close your top if you press button twice. Once you get the module and go through the installation manual, I'm sure you'll be a pro.
