i have a standard sport with 18" chicargos
i think the 'lowered' suspension on the sport 17" car looks better
why isnt it lowered when you have 18" wheels? surely as they are lower profile tyres the diameter is the same?
can i fit or change to the vw sprinsg of a standard sport
i dont want to make the ride any firmer just get rid of the jacked up look
eibach looks the best option, anybody done this?
cheers

Purely for looks, with the 18" wheels the car does not look right at all IMHO.

Ive been quoted £265 all in.

I spoke to VW and it does invalidate the warranty in respect of all suspension issues and any other problem that may arise as a result of the mod.

It also puts my insurance up by £15 a year!!!!

I would rather be legal as you never know.

Does anyone know if these Eibach springs would cause negative camber on the wheels. when you lower a vehicle significantly lower than standard, wheels tend to camber and you will get half the life out of your tyres as they wear unevenly

i agree totally it looks to high!
all i want to do is make it look like a standard sport with 17" wheels and the lowered suspension (about 15mm)
god knows why its not lowered when you add chicargos?
have you enquired as to fitting oem springs?

I didnt enquire about the OEM as Eibach seem to have the edge and they are a lot cheaper.

AGA made a good point which I forgot, the lowered springs effect the geometry so the camber will need to be done, I didnt include this in the price.

by having the 18" wheels you harden the ride as you have less tyre to take the bumps. so not lowering ... is a way of giving you some ride comfort back ... thats a guess ! ??

having said that mine is low enough ..

a! is that the little black bits sticking out just beyond the arches? my previous 06 plate had chicargos but not them.
maybe its not down to the diameter of the wheel/tyre combo but the width hence the plastic strips to stop spray on wider wheels?
anybody know the width of the 17" and 18" wheels?

can members measure the gap between the tyre and the arch
be interesting to see the actual distance and the variation from country and wheel size
especially an OZ car
if its much better then maybe a oem coil would be the way to go to keep the waranty

French spec May 2007.
I have 17" Le Mans with 235/45R17 Pirelli Rosso tyres. Same diameter overall as the Chicagos with lower profile tyres.
Front gap is 40mm, Rear gap is 35mm. She is supposed to have the sport suspension. Gap is with roof closed.

Good job I checked as the rears are both the same but at the front I have 40mm left & 50mm right. She has her first 25000km service on monday, so I'll get them to check the ride height & suspension. 10mm difference cannot be correct.:(

my gap is 60mm all round and tyres are almost new using a ruler flat accross the centre of the tyre.
overall diameter of the wheel/tyre is about 635mm

It might well be!
My rear tyres lasted twice as long as my fronts...!
No the difference is side to side. front to rear is probably what it should be.
I double checked having moved her in case my driveway was causing the problem.

She doesn't look out of level but the gap is definitely about 10mm more on the right (passenger - LHD) side.

i have spoke to vw technical this morning to query why the sport with 18" wheels are not lowered
i was told there is NO technical reason it is just the specification of UK models!

I suspect that may be true in most markets although I thought everyone but The US was to get the lowering of 15mm. Many of the early magazine articles also stated this. When I ordered my 07 Sport package it listed the Sport suspension as part of the package and I thought it would be lowered. this was supposed to be for cars with 17" wheelsand possibly 18". When it arrived there was no mention of the Sport suspension on the window sticker and no 15 mm lowering. When I inquired the answer I got was that the Sport suspension had stiffer strut/spring assemblies and slightly larger sway bars. I guess VW couldn't live up to the prerelease hype or the info they sent out was wrong. We were beginning to think everyone else but us got the lowering.
