Hi there, I have had my new 2009 EOS for only 10 days and now and love it, what a great fun car!

My question is concerning the window and roof seals that I see people here on the forum are talking about and suggesting to maintain.

I have a product at home called Aerospace 303 and it says on the bottle that it is good for Leather, Vinyl and rubber. It states that it has NO solvents and Silicone and it is body-shop safe.

My question is can I use this on the weather stripping? Or do I have to purchase the VW recommended lubricant that I have seen referred to as Kyrtox?

Thanks everyone for any advice and thanks for this great forum

For warranty purposes, on the top seals I'd only use the VW recommended G052172A1 lubricant as listed in the owner's manual. Or at least generic Dupont Krytox. I had good luck with GPL205 grease, but some folks prefer the GPL105 liquid, which is more like G052172A1 (and is purportedly what VW repackages). Price difference doesn't seem to be quite as great as it used to be; 1stVWParts has the VW stuff for around $44 after VW dropped their retail price.

Aerospace 303 Protectant is a fine product IMHO, but it's a protectant, not a teflon-based lubricant that Eos seals require. I use 303 on my truck's tonneau.

I agree, I would go with the Krytox. A little bit goes a long way, I have done my seals 4 times and still have some left in the little bottle VW sells. Personally I try to do my seals about every 6 months. It seems that is about the time that the rubbers on both sides of the sunroof start to curl down instead of sticking out horizontally like VW says they are supposed to.

I like the 303 for the dash, door trim and the black shelf behind the rear headrests. Good protectant that doesn't seem to attract dirt/dust and isn't too shiny. Krytox for the seals, though.

kdarch,

I got my 09 about a month ago. I am using Krytox and 303.

I use the Krytox for lube and protection. I use the 303 for UVA/B protection (and the non-slick finish). I am not sure if Krytox protects from UVA/B rays.

I look at it like I am applying moisturizer and then sunscreen to the 'skin'.

First I apply the Krytox and let it soak. Then I lightly apply the 303 with a paint sponge. I spray the 303 on the sponge and shake off the excess.

Take care!

Seal Maintenance

HI, I have treated my EOS seals with the GO52172A1 lubricant as recommended by VW. It seems to have dried with a slight glaze, and no longer feels oily. It has now been rained on , and although I have not found, or ever had water ingress, it has left streaks down the outside of the windows. I am not worried about the streaky windows, only the condition of the seals Is this right?
Regards Barry C-All
