Hi all.

Just wanted to find out if anyone has experience some moisture in their headlights?

Just got my new Eos today and went out this evening to the car and noticed this. However, my old Eos which is still parked next to the new one, didn't have, so I'm guessing can't just be the weather.

Any advise would be great....

Thanks,
Nick

I did when I first got my Eos last December. I noticed it after 3 days of ownership. Since I wanted to Clearshield the surface of the hood and lights I asked the dealership about it. They informed me that it is not a "perfectly sealed" unit and some moisture is normal. In my experience if I've seen any minimal moisuture there it is first thing in the am and often is gone after driving a bit...presumably the heat from running the lights evaporates this away. Some more technically-inclined owners in this forum may have a greater opinion on this subject though. Enjoy!

All lights that have replaceable bulbs are not fully sealed and air can access the inside of the fitting due to barometric pressure and temperature changes despite the rubber boots that are usually fitted to counter direct water impingement from splashing or hosing.

If the car goes from an environment with relatively hot and humid air to a colder environment within a relatively short time; some condensation might occur however it will then evaporate over time or when the lights are switched on and their heat evaporates the moisture.

I would be concerned if the inside is permanently wet or if there is a large amount of water [i.e. more than a tablespoon].

I have the same problem in Hawaii. My BMW does not suffer from this, and the light fixtures on my EOS are starting to tarnish on the inside. Think the design looks great, but is made cheaply. I love my EOS with all it's quirks!

Hi Lopaka,

Your climate in Hawaii is exactly the type where condensation could be a problem. We have similar climatic conditions where I live so will watch carefully in 3 months time when our humid weather comes. Will check the wiring lead covers to see if there are any problems with them so they can be fixed during the "run-in" service check later this month.

I would refer this to your dealer as a future warranty repair item so they can obtain replacement lights for replacement at your next service.

Thanks Silvershadow for the advise. Will show the dealer at the next service coming up shortly. Will let you know what they say

Follow-up visit to dealer.

The dealer said it was normal, but it has been noted for warrantee incase it gets worse.

Hi Lopaka,

Make sure you get a written confirmation or an annotation on the service invoice that this problem was brought to their attention.

This is essential if you have to make a future claim outside the warranty period and helps if they try to blame you rather than a defective part for causing the problem within the warranty period.

Been there, done that in the past with other makes.

Thanks Silvershadow,
Dealer did make note on invoice. The dealer is still very inexperienced with the EOS in Hawaii. They don't get that many to sell, had none on the lot to even look at. I hope VW does not kill the sale of the EOS in the US? Right now we have just elected a new President, but boy does he have one heck of a hard job ahead of him. Our Economy is in the dumper, and it has hit us extra hard in Hawaii being a tourist driven state. Enough politics. Good driving!
