Going back to the original thread, I have just had my car serviced and they have changed the MFD under warranty (apparenty other owners have suffered from the same problem and Volkswagen were aware of this issue).
What I did not realise though is that the change of the pollen filter is not a service item and as such comes as an additional charge. The dealership has also advised me to have the air con refreshed (to get rid of the bacterias) and re-gased (the car has only done just over 33,000 miles). I have had to have this done on my Alfa Romeo but the car had done nearly 100,000 miles at the time...
