I was wondering whether I am the only one experiencing this. The brightness goes down to a point where you can't see the display. Then it comes back to normal. Then it flashes. Unfortunately, I have not managed so far to work out what triggers it.

Hi have you checked the knob on the side of the steering wheel, that controls lighting level for the speedometer, rpm counter etc? Not sure it's linked to the MFD though...

I know exactly the little knob you are talking about but I have not touched it for a while. The same thing happened this morning, about 60 minutes into my journey to work. However, doing the same journey in the evening, the display is fine. How bizarre? The car is due for a service shortly, so I will get them to check.

Cheers.

Don't worry Doolallygirl, they put them where the girls can't find them, that way they don't get broke:D
Doh, well I know how men like to play with their knobs so it must be just visible to men! :p

Going back to the original thread, I have just had my car serviced and they have changed the MFD under warranty (apparenty other owners have suffered from the same problem and Volkswagen were aware of this issue).
What I did not realise though is that the change of the pollen filter is not a service item and as such comes as an additional charge. The dealership has also advised me to have the air con refreshed (to get rid of the bacterias) and re-gased (the car has only done just over 33,000 miles). I have had to have this done on my Alfa Romeo but the car had done nearly 100,000 miles at the time...
