Aloha All,
We have just had our heavy winter rains start in Hawaii and to my suprise, my car fills up like a bathtub! Both doors collected enough water that when you opened them, a rrrush of water came out from both, worse than ever! I opened the boot, and yes, the carpet was wet and water in the spare well!
I have never used Krytox? yet. Does anyone have the same problems, and how did you get them corrected.
Thanks,
Lopaka:eek:

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. My Eos is just over a year old and I've never had a leak nor have I used Krytox. With the amount of water you wrote about, one would suspect heavy leaking several places. Do you run your car through a car wash with high pressure? From what I've been able to gather, that's a no-no. Still, if you went through a car wash now, I would think you would see where your leaks are.

I realize a garage is a luxury that a lot of people don't have access to and maybe that's part of the reason I've had no trouble. If you don't have a garage, certainly a cover might prevent leaks. However, a cover can be a pain also as you have to put it on and take it off every time you are going to be leaving the car for any length of time. I would assume most leaks happen while the car in unattended. Otherwise, one would see them and try to do something about it.

I'm up in Seattle where I don't get that much opportunity to drive top down. I may be wrong, but I think daily up/down operation can't be good for the seals.

Hard for me to make a judgement about your car in its present condition. I will say that I had a '93 Suburban that some how got damp on the inside and there was a "smell" afterwords that I could never get used to. I ended up trading it in before its time, mainly because of slight musty that probably came from the carpet.

I would take it back to your dealer - for a nearly new 2008 to do that is not normal. It sounds like you have a problem that is more than just seals that need Krytox. Your Eos may not have had its drain hoses that are supposed to drain the water out of the tracks on both sides of the sunroof connected correctly.

Tell your dealer you had water in the spare tire well that should trigger them to do a water test and reproduce the problem at their shop. There is pretty good dealer fix procedures written for fixing water leaks. In any case they should Krytox it for you as part of their problem solving, saving you the trouble.

I will take it back to the dealer. I know another EOS owner who just bought a 2009 for his wife. They had a 2007 with the same problems I am experiencing. He told me they had plugged drain tubes. I guess I will have the dealer check.

As a bit of preventive medicine can anyone please describe where to find these "drain tubes". I had read a previous post about testing them with a syringe without a needle. As a physician, I certainly have access to this and am interested in checking to make sure I don't have plugged drain tubes BEFORE experiencing any leak issues. Fortunately, I'm garaged overnight but heading into winter may be subject to more daytime precipitation. Thanks!

Darren, I think I can helpwith the front tubes. To get to them you must lower the top. Once the top is down, look at the top of the A pillars where they meet the roof. You should see two round holes. The upper is for the roof locator pins and the bottom is the drain. Be care with the drain tube. The first part of the drain is plastic and can break. Beyond that you have a plastic or rubber hose. You don't want to puncture it or separate it from the previously mentioned tube or it's back to the dealer. As far as the rear, I'm not sure if there is a tube system but is a good idea to use the special lubricant on the trunk seal. Still it could be a seal issue where it isn't seated properly or a trunk lid to seal alignment issue. As for the doors, I don't know if there is a VW fix for the water in the doors. I have read of someone trying their own cure with some success, but IIRC it involves making new holes on the bottom of the doors.
Lopaka, you have my sympathy. I heard you guys got dumped on there. I can't say if my Eos would have fared any better. I have never left it out in any downpours like you have had. Eventually your rainy season will go away. Good luck with getting your Eos dried out.

Thanks Andy,
Rained all night again! I have to parking stalls, but they are not covered. In Hawaii, Housing and land size is very expensive, so they try to make the most of the little land we have out here. Thank God we don't have snow too!
Will go check her this am and bail her out.
The roof has not leaked on the interior, just the fill up of the doors and now water in the trunk. It is still a wonderful car, and I'm sure the dealer will sort it out. I'm sure my friends wife is going to love her 2009 EOS for Christmas! He even got her the Tech package and a big red bow on the hood!
Happy Holidays to all!

Sorry to hear about your problems. I have had my Eos for about 18-months and have not experienced the issues you describe. If we get heavy rains, I will get some water when I open the doors - not too bad though. I have never gotten water in my trunk. Once in a while I go through car washes (in Michigan winter months only) - no problems yet. I have not yet used the Krytox, I just got a complimentary package from my dealer while in for an oil change and will apply if the temperature warms a bit.

Good luck and keep us informed...

Hi Lopaka,
As explained in other threads, my Aug 2007 (2008 model) EOS is currently at dealer to fix incoming water that then stagnates below driver's and front passenger's carpets (and also causes fog and sometimes ice inside the car's windows and windshield)...
VW has now spotted that the leak occurs on both sides where the roof meets the windshield (sorry, not familiar with A B C pillars :-().. You may want your dealer to check yours...
Krytox would not help for this... It's a true malfunction, not a seal adjustment...

Mines been in the dealers for a month now with all of the above...

Went in for something else and they told me about the leak, as I didn't realise. I have noticed a drip or two just inside the rear side windows but thats only when I hand wash it with a hose, not when it rains.

I believe they cant cope with a real influx of solid water. what I mean is, if you sprinkle the car with a hose its ok, but if you let the hose just run out onto the roof in a solid flow thats when it leaks. Its as if the drain pipe just can cope with the sudden volume of water.

Anyway they have replace everything on the roof thats made of rubber so we will see if its worked of not this week! However this time I will make them water test it in front of me so I dont have to take it back a third time.

Where you are descrbing, the water gets in where the seal separates above the rear side wndows... (there is a diagonal slit)... As long as it is agreeably replete with lubrication, it should stop leaking. The only leak I ever had was there and that was when I had left it a bit long without lube!

Roof seals can't really leak into the car unless the drains for them are blocked...

Leaks, for real, and now fixed - Same posted in other thread

Just back from the dealer where my lovely EOS has undergone 'surgery' for the last week... After spotting some fog on the inside of the windows and windshield last winter, and then actual water stagnating beneath driver's and front passenger's seats last month, I took it to VW who totally dismounted the car and performed two actions:
- change seals in between the side pillars along the windshield and the roof
- adjust the windows up/down thresholds sothey go deeper inside up.

As a side bonus (happily since I had to leave my baby with them for 7 working days instead of the initaly planned 2!), they have lubricated all joints, replaced the carpet clips to quarter-turn ones (vs. the malfunctioning stick in originals), and upgraded my handbreak leather hose to that of the 09 model, as the original had torn apart...

And the inside looks as clean as when first purchased ;-)

Thank you all for the responses. I didn't want to come off being negative and complaining about the EOS, but I did want to know if other were experiencing the same issues, and how the dealer is correcting them.
I have gotten use to the water in the doors when you open them, but wonder about rust should you choose to hold on to the car. Water in the trunk just seemed to be plane unaccepable. I am still having to live with the squeeling brakes even though the dealer took the wheels off at my expense and said there was nothing wrong. My 16 year old blind dog can here me come home. do others have squeely brakes?
Frustrated.

do others have squeely brakes?

My car is just over two months since delivery, I have done about 2500 miles, my o/s/r squeaks every now and then for some reason. Its not "dust" I drive 25 miles to and from work (50 mile round trip) and I am no slouch.

Just one of those things

Lopaka,
The only time I was getting a squeak on our 08 seemed to be when I had washed the car, and let sit in the Garage. The disks would have a little rust form on the surface, and then would squeak for a few actuation's then go away. So far no squeaks on the 09.
