a full tank cost about $AUD 70 , only goes up to 350KM :(.

is this normal??

That does sound unusual, I took my 2.0 T FSI with 6 speed manual for a run on Boxing Day from my home in Melbourne to Portsea on the Mornington Peninsular through mainly 60 kph and 80 kph speed zones and my average for the trip was 7.2L/100 K. I must admit that I was just cruising but normally I reckon around melbourne I use around 8 to 9L/100K and on the highway around 6 to 7 L/100K. My Eos is more economical than the Mazda 6 I had. But I have found in the past with PULP that quantity can vary and because of this I now mainly use Shell V-Power. When I had the Mazda6 I picked up a load of PULP in country NSW and the fuel economy on that tank was shocking!

Hi chappies, just thought I'd share that my three week old (new) Eos delivered 50mpg ( don't know what that is in Kilo speak:) ) after its first fill up at 950kms.

Hi Bryan

50 MPG equates to 5.6L/100K which is pretty damn good, but then you are driving a diesel powered Eos . But my wife drives a diesel powered Golf so I fugured that one diesel in the family is enough which is why I opted for the petrol version and I have been pleasantly surprised by it's economy.

I do have to say that the dark colours look really good though, but as a creature of habit I bought another silver car.

Hey there...
do you use your air-con regularly?
Does this contribute to it drinking like a fish?

I always thought that running your air-con resulted in a thirstier car?

If you're getting 350km on a full tank - thats pretty tragic  - my current vehicle is a heck of a lot heavier than the Eos - if I got 380-390km from a full tank I'd consider that a miracle around Sydney - and thats with the air-con going pretty much every time I'm behind the wheel.
How on earth can you be getting 350km

I think our fuel tanks are comparable in size too - about 55L on the Eos & about 60 on the 3 series.

Thanks Dave, yeah I use my aircon all the time.. the same way when I drive my last car ( Golf 2.0 Sportline ), that car goes up to 400km at least for city driving.

I have booked in for a quick check up next monday, will let you guys know the outcome afterwards.

cheers

Lots for the dollar

Hey there just wanted to inform you that usually when I fill up the entire tank the km on the computer menu says between 480 and 510km. So I think anything less than 400 suggests a problem. Cheers. Loving my Eos and soon it will be one year old...in February.

Ive not done it in my Eos yet but on my last two VW group cars I checked the mpg betwen fill ups with AC on and AC off. Not a particularly scientific test but I found in both cases that the AC on all the time reduced the mpg by betwen 4-5%.
Cheers, David

PS. My 2.0T averages around 29-30mpg (imperial) with mixed roads driving. its such a fun car to drive, (and I cant help but drive it fast  )

Hi Davidp, I am curious, what is a winter pack? Sound like you are averaging 9.5 L per 100 K which is quite good if you are driving it fast. (I certainly know that constant urge to get the most out of the most amazing 2.0 L power train.)

Hi Dan

In the UK the winter pack is heated seats, headlamp washers and heated windscreen washer fluid, (although if you have leather seats you get heated seats as standard).

My mpg average over the last 2000 miles was 29.5 but that included a fair bit of motorway as well. I have found that the mpg computer is usually around 0.5 to 1.0 mpg higher than calculating it between fill ups.

Cheers, David

Hi Dave,

I filled up today, the trip meter had 426.6 k's and I took 36.4 l to fill it up. Thats about 8.53 L per 100K. How many K's has yours done, I have noticed that mine has improved as the K's tick over, I have done over 5000 k's now.

Hi Danny,

Got back from the hospital(VW Service center) this morning , and test results for my 2 months old baby(EOS) are all normal, average 10Ls/100Kms..

The only possible explanation is the fact i live in the CBD area, and, yes! you guessed...stop/start during the peakhours sydney traffic..

as always, the VW service cener is very helpful, and got a free bath and wheel clean for me baby afterwards:).

oh..and hope you all have a great 2008!!

P.S EOS tells me I can go 540km, each time i fill up the tank full..

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all, hope 08 brings lots of great EDA's!

I've had my babe for 9 months now, just on 14,000 km's and loving it even more. Amazing what happens at about 13,000km's....engine really loosens up & we just FLY.......gotta watch those freakin speed cameras pasted EVERYWHERE around Sydney
You'll find consumption gets better as you go but I dont remember it being that bad, I average about 500km per fill.
Good luck & hope your Eos brings you as much joy as mine has to me :)

How is your fuel consumption going? I drove to Eden NSW a fortnight ago (absloutely beautiful location) and on my return trip I drove all the way from Eden to Melbourne on one tank of fuel averaging 7.2 litres per 100K. Love the power of the T FSI, very useful when overtaking.

Our gallon is smaller than your gallon, We get 23-23 mpg around town and 32 mpg on the highway. Our gas tanks are listed at 14.5 and I'm guessing Your tanks are rated less even though they are physically the same tanks. It's that weird US/Imperial gallon thing as we don't use the metric system here.
