I own a '56' Plate TDi Eos Sport - Which i love..however..
Two weeks ago my Eos was in VW for various warrenty repairs (new wing mirror housing and the cord behind the passengers seat on the roof was broken).
The next day, once my car had been returned (a rare day of sunshine) my roof got half way down and then displayed 'System Error' and prompty stopped this continued 3 times and the roof would not come down.
I called VW who took it in for repairs, i collected my car and tested the roof in the VW car park half way down..'System Error'..Furious i returned and was promised my car would be sorted again tomorrow.
I returned the next day to find my car had not moved and to be advised it would require 'the roof stripping down'..
My Eos is now in again and i've been told that it is a 'Intermittent Fault' and the roof if working fine for them, they'll keep it over night and keep trying to see if the fault returns.
As i've now been to VW 4 times in the last two weeks i'm starting to loose it...I don't want to keep returning everytime my roof decides not to come down..my biggest fear is the day it doesn't want to come back up!!!!
Has anyone else had similar roof problems?..I've read about leaks but nothing on 'System Error' or roofs not working...

Problem with that error is that it isn't very clear! It could be a faulty sensor, but that is not too likely...

Would you be able to take a photo of when it is stuck so we can see exactly what point it stops at...

Also, is it stopping at exactly the same point each time?

Where are you from by the way?

I have the system error warning coming on too. Mine does it after the roof has gone back up. Just as you are waiting for the 'gong' before the windows come up, the hydraulic motors run for longer than usual, with nothing else happening, then the system error warning comes on. I cant think of anything much more inconvenient, as we'd just arrived at a restaraunt and were unable to leave the vehicle secure.
Anyway, its gone in to be sorted. It had the common water collecting in the boot as well. Obviously, that prob was well known to the dealer. He said all Eos's do it, and reckons it gets in around the rear lights. We shall see....

Me Eos has never collected rain water in the boot! Just to disprove your dealer! :p

To be fair, on every owners forum I've ever been on for any car I've ever had, there's been posts about water in the boot where the dealer says it's getting in through the rear lights. Quite a common problem generally, although I've not seen any similar problems mentioned on the eos fora before...

Water in the boot from rear light leaks sounds more like a "cop out" excuse and owners tend to accept this as true. I agree though with the others and you should be a little suspicious.

The only leaks I know of that are common with the car are leaks associated with dry seals, and water collecting in the sills during a heavy rain.

reminds me I need some krytox.

This is a cop out as suggested earlies as i have repaired many eos leaks and never come across this place of ingress. The usual area for boot ingress is the transition on the rear shelf where the gdk sits on the outer window seal. If you open the roof to the point where the gdk is in the fully tilted position and the c-section is raised but the roof section is still against the a pillers , look at the very end edge of the rear shelf and see if the seal is flush ,also inspect the outer window seal for deformation.
