new engine ?

Hi everyone

I am a new member so I hope I am doing this right.
I bought my Eos 2.0 Fsi Turbo Individual about 6 weeks ago privately, it is July 07 with only 2500 miles, so it seemed like new.Two weeks ago something broke in what seemed like the clutch. When you start the engine there is a rumbling noise and if you depress the cluch the noise gets much louder and you can feel the vibration through the pedal.I took it to the local Main Dealer who said it would need a clutch and flywheel, under warranty of course, so no problem. Now they say it needs a new engine! seems pretty extreme to me.
It is still a warranty issue so still no problem, I just wondered if this is a rare thing or if anyone else has had a similar problem?

Cheers Dan

Hi,

It really depends what the problem is... If something broke off the flywheel and damaged the big end mounting, then that would be the end of the crank shaft... That means a new short motor/engine... It is probably cheaper to replace the engine than to replace the c4rank shaft... Also, they may want to send the engine to germany for inspection to see if there is some kind of flaw or cause for the failure...

Did you get an AA check on the car or anything? Are you sure something wasn't "on its way out" when you bought it? Could you not get a refund and start again?! I'd be majorly bummed if I were you, do you have a replacement car or courtesy Eos in the meantime?
Hi
I reckon you will be better off with a complete new engine, especially if it's all under warranty. When my Eos had less than 300 miles on the clock ( it was only 3 days old ) I could not engage 5th gear and my local VW garage put me in a new gearbox, no fuss, the next working day! Altho I did not buy the car from them I think they were embarrassed about the problem and gave me the option of a repair or a new gearbox ( which I chose ). They were brilliant in sorting it out and had the new gearbox installed in about 4 hours flat.
If your garage is prepared to replace the whole engine go for it, it will surely be easier for them and I reckon better for you...........

Good luck
Richard
I've got a vibration through the clutch pedal too. Engine seems ok but when I release the clutch slowly I get some vibration. Does anyone else get this? Never noticed it on previous cars so I am a little concerned. I should try another one at a dealer but I might get dealer BS. So advice on here first would be appreciated. ( Sorry to highjack this thread)
