what do you think?
would you consider changing your eos for it?
personally i am waiting to see it in the metal before making my mind up as its supposed to look better
i love the front end and would like to see that on the eos but the back is my only concern, sciroccos of old had a sweeping tailgate where as the new one looks like an ordinary hatchback. reminds me of a 90s mitsubushi colt!
cant fault the inside though as its the same as the eos :) nicer dsg gearlever as well and more standard kit

I was going to wait for the Scirocco (Sept. launch in France), but I ordered the Eos (3.5 weeks to go until delivery...) for the following reasons:

- Scirocco looks fantastic on the outside, slightly disappointing inside (Eos dash good on the Eos, but Scirocco's aggressive exterior called for something funkier, IMHO)

- Scirocco basically offers the same as my Clio, whereas Eos - my first convertible - will offer much more

- Scirocco smacks of mid-life crisis (I'm 44), whereas Eos is more classy

- Test reports I've read say Scirocco's ride is firm. This is young, enthusiastic journalist speak for 'rock hard' - which I hate

- I would have to wait until the autumn

:)

As VW claims not to be bringing the Scirocco I suppose I shouldnt have much to say. However I see the car as only a mild variation of a GTI. I liked the first Scirocco. Rumors were that the new Scirocco may be the new look for VW cars to follow. I hope not. I definitely would not trade the Eos for it.

Somebody else who thinks like me. I also like the look of the new Scirocco although will be interested to see one in the metal as it appears different in pictures in different colours. Reviews I have read so far say it drives better than the Golf GTi. Pity only the 2.0 engine is available at launch here in the UK, in Sept. Other engines and diesels will be available at teh beginning of next year. Will have to be patient but at least get a better idea of the shape when launched in September.

Hey, I just got my Eos 7 months ago! The only time in my life that I did a "short tour exchange" on a vehicle was in is 1964 when I bought a Pontiac GTO hardtop coupe. A few months later the 64 1/2 MUSTANG appeared suddenly. I was so smitten that I traded my GTO in after having it about 4 months for a Mustang convertible 4 speed V8 in Prairie Bronze. One of the best cars I've owned and wish I still had it in the garage.

I have no desire to get the new Scirocco convertible even if VW gave me 100% back for the Eos. I just like the way the Eos looks, feels and drives. If VW is going to change the Eos badging to that of the Passant, they are not going to be changing the badging on my car for less than $10,000. OK, I'll let them do it for only $7500. Maybe.

Hi.
Would not consider changing my EOS for a Scirocco, just because it is NOT a convertible, second because I would buy it in its sportiest version (otherwise rather by a golf or a polo...) which is now a no go with speedcams all over here...
But is does look nice as another gadget car...

After chopping in my little over 12 month old Focus ST2 which i loved for an Eos simply because i missed having a convertible (previously had an MX-5 before the Focus) then no, i won't be getting a Scirocco. I do like them though, but i reckon i'll stick with folding hard-tops from now on as they're getting better all the time.

Never mind my post above then. I thought this discussion was about VW moving the Eos to the Passat line and replacing it with a ragtop. The ONLY reason I bought the Eos is the top down feature. So, whoever started this thread can take the Scirocco and shove it....

Let the EOS godess of winds blow all other winds (Scirocco...) away... :D

What is this story about the EOS to be rebadged as Passat???? Was this announced? The Passat CC (coupé but not convertible) is now out in France, but VW have repeatedly confimed they had no plan for a Passat convertible...

It's had excellent reviews in the motoring press (today's 'Autocar' magazine says it's better than the BMW 1 series Coupe against which it's tested).

Personally am surprised at the direction VW has taken because the Scirocco doesn't seem to do anything that either the Golf GTI or Eos doesn't do.

It not really a coupe, more a squashed hatchback and whilst it looks quite attractive I'm not sure it's not just a niche model too far.

It's not really an alternative to an Eos because of course it's a fixed-head. Internally it's even virtually identical to the Eos, as a cash-saving measure.

I'm not entirely sure who it will appeal to. If you want a coupe then it really isn't one; if you want a hatchback the Golf is perfect. It might be a great drive but the proof of the pudding is in the eating; let's see how many they sell!

Why isn't it really a coupe? It's a three door with a unique body style and a low roofline and squat stance.

Good question. Originally a coupe was of course just a cut-down version of a saloon but these days coupes are generally a fastback or a notchback design. The Scirocco is neither. In fact there's already a category it fits neatly into: it's a hatchback! i.e. vertical rear with opening 3rd (rear) door/hatch.

Typical coupes might be a Toyota Celica, Audi A5, BMW 3-series coupe, or indeed the original Mk1 and 2 Sciroccos or our beloved Eos! I don't think the new Scirocco is one of those in the accepted sense of a coupe these days.

Sorry to be so abrupt about the Scirocco. I'm a little bit over-the-hill and just don't get the "ugly" car routine. From the quick gander I took of the car, I suspect it will appeal to the under 30 crowd and definitely to the lower 20's group. I also understand that it's probably a great driving machine, but unless the outer skin looks like an Eos, I wouldn't be caught dead in it unless it was the only rental that Alamo had left on a dark and rainy night.

Funny you should mention the MKI and II Scirocco's and the Toyota Celica as what would be accepted as a coupe today! If you think about it. Mercedes have the CLS, and VW have the Passat CC, Audi the upcoming A7. All considered coupes today, all with four doors. I would suggest that the term coupe is used purely for marketing, to be applied by the manufacturer to any model they wish to give a 'sporting' image to.

I still say the new Scirocco is as much a coupe as the old one. Oh, and its got two individual rear seats.:)

Well, of course things do move on and words/meanings can change. As you say they can call what they like a coupe!

But I still think the concept is basically just a squashed Golf and whilst personally I think it looks quite good I would have preferred a much sleeker, more sporty design in the idiom of the original Sciroccos (one of which I had - a Mk2 GTI - and an absolutely terrific car it was!)

they can call it a coupe but perhaps they should have changed the name
i mean the golf and beetle have stayed true to their original concept and design so to me the scirocco should at least resemble the original shape(ie a sweeping back) in order to retain its name.
but it does look more like a hatchback :)
