In the last week ro so. I've started to drive around with Avg MPG for the current trip as the displayed value on the MFD.

I've been pleasantly surprised-- I'm getting close to 30 mpg on my daily commute. (17 miles each way, mostly back country roads.)

Yesterday I got 31.1 mpg on the way to work-- a personal best! Now I have something to try to beat tomorrow.....<g>

A couple of times, I've been averaging 30.5 on the way home, only to hit the last two traffic lights wrong and watch the avg mpg slowly erode away, leaving me at 29.5 when I get home.

As James May said: "I love economy racing!"

I've played that game too. Unfortunately I like torque too much. Sometimes I just need to feel myself pushed squarely into my seat. That does much more damage to average mpgs than a few traffic lights but does much more to my grin as well. Too bad the two are mutually exclusive of each other. Enjoy!

Its a great game isn't it rc. Do you have cruise control? Thats even better when you use it to do most of the journey.
By the way thanks for the info on Dollar Rentals. Have now downloaded the New England map onto my own TomTom to use when we get there instead of taking the risk there not being one available when we get there, hopefully it will work!

Yesterday I got a personal best-- 33.5 mpg, on a trip from Vermont back to the Boston area-- a good average for a 200 mile trip.

I guess that is 33.5 mpg to the US gallon. My maths makes that 41.9 mpg to the Imperial gallon. Very impressive for petrol.:D

Yanks always claim that everything they have is bigger than anyone else. Not when it comes to fluids. :p Your pints are a miserly 16 fl ozs (ours are 20).

I was pleasantly surprised how close the actual mpg comes to the last MFD value before filling the tank - it's typically off less than a mile.

I'm also curious to see how the next tank's mpg works out; this will be the first one since I had the APR tune done a few weeks ago!

.........Depends on how much fun you've had with your foot. I've done 35mpg on a cruise down Rte 5 from Chesterfield to Williamsburg. My average is about 26-28 in my daily commute to the YMCA and to work and home.

They say "It is not what you drive, it is HOW you drive"-- quite true, in my experience.

On my daily commute, I can 30mpg if I drive conservatively, or 22 mpg if I'm really pushing it. (I don't get home any sooner, either-- I just get to the next light faster!)

Sunday afternoon driving through the sunny Kent countryside on narrow lanes and away from traffic, like two OAPs on holiday (sorry), on a three hour outing we averaged 53 mpg (diesel of course)!!! 53!!! (Admittedly my husband was driving - well he needs a treat from time to time). I can only get that sort of mileage on motorway driving. He uses the breaks more, I use the gears more - lesson there I suppose.

Um ... I didn't know an American gallon was different from a GB gallon (what's the symbol for 'stupid'?)

Dread to think what I would get to a US gallon then, sometimes get 23 to a UK gallon around town, can get worse with some enthusiastic driving!!!

Very true! My 11 mile each way daily commute is all city driving in mild to moderate traffic each way. I average just shy of 24MPG in my IS350 in 100% city driving. On trips to California (from Vegas) I average 33MPG. Looking forward to trying out the Eos on that drive to see what it can get. Even in our Ridgeline, the California trip averages 21MPG.

Usually on my drive into and back from work I get somewhere in the region of 52-55mpg. I have a couple of times had 60mpg - but that was with me putting a fair bit of effort into being economical!
