my eos has 5000km and was serviced at 3700km (2 years). On the service check list the long life oil control is checked, however now the oil is at the minimum level. Do you think this consuption is normal and which oil do you recommend for the 147Kw engine? The manual only states VW codes...
Do you recommend to go to VW so they can add long life oil (thus falling in the vw "trap")?

Thank you

Max,
I'm not into metric but your useage of oil seem high. Over here oil changes come at 5,000, 10,000 and then every 10,000 miles thereafter. In your terms 8k, 16k, 32k, 48k meters etc. I use a quart of oil about every 4,000 miles. When the oil gets changed so does the filter. So the oil and filter both can go the distance. I think the oil is VW502.00 listed. The oil my dealer uses is Castrol Syntec 5W40. If you change your own you can use Mobil1 0W40. That comes from Mobil's website. Changing your oil can be a pain. From the bottom you need to remove the shield under the car. Another option is to remove the oil through the dipstick tube with a hose and pump. The filter I believe is on the side of the engine and not easy to get to unless you remove the top or bottom cover. BTW there are people reporting the useage of 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles which VW considers "normal". Hope this helps. One other thought. Higher useage of oil may be due to driving harder. This only a guess and probably does not apply to you.

Thanks cb, actually I don't know if they really filled the oil last time. I should have checked the level far more frequently I know... Anyway I don't plan to change the oil myself but just to fill it. Since I don't know exactly which oil type was used maybe the best idea is to go to Vw and ask for an oil change (this time I will check oil type and level myself).
Anyway here the long life oil change is planned every 4 years or 60000 Km...

I have a 2007 2.0T with 10,000 miles mix of 50-50 city and highway driving. Oil was changed by VW dealer with Mobil 1 at 5000 miles I have added 1 quart about 7800 miles so I am satisfied with the oil consumption. Oil consumption can be higher if one does not follow the VW engine break in advice about how to drive the car the first 1000 miles or so.

Mine doesn't seem to need oil anymore... It's just over a year old and has maintained the right level for many months now...

FYI, I think the best OIL is the Mobil1 0W/40 Fully Synthetic... I also top up after each service with ExtraLube ZX1 (formula 1 super lubricant - no one of those teflon based rip off ones!). www.team-zx1.co.uk

Mine uses a bit of oil and needs to be topped up every couple of thousand miles. The dealer uses 5/35 I think so I try to get the same but few stock it so I invariably end up putting 10/40 in.

Volkswagen state a consumption of up to 1 litre of oil per 1000km (or approx 630m) is acceptable as stated in the owners manual.

I just changed my TFSI 2.0T oil at 10.5 K miles and am giving Mobil 1 Energy Saving 0W-30 synthetic a try this time. Mobil claims it gives 0.2 US MPG improvement over their standard Mobil 1 oil formulation. I am taking a near zero risk as 0W-30 Mobil 1 is not on the VW approved list. Just took a 150 mile highway drive over a route I drive often since the oil change and per the MFD it looks like the 0.2 MPG improvement is real.
