Having read some stuff on here, I decided to read the tech info guide which came with the car and, as it happens, it does recommend Super Unleaded (98 RON).....

I put some in yesterday (V-Power) and it does make a difference! Engine seems quieter and happier!

I will mainly be using ESSO Super Unleaded, and then V-Power every so often...

What are other people's findings (Especially in the UK)?

Ours normally gets 98 RON from Texaco with the occasional tank of 97 RON super from Sainsburys.

Have not tried it with normal unleaded yet and I don't drive it very often so cannot comment on any differences.

I used to use only standard unleaded and I thought that was fine till I changed to Shell V-power, now I'm a convert and use this all the time. Only exception is if I can't get it at service stations say on the motorway then I use whats available.

The sticker on the inside of the fuel filler on Australian cars is attached below.

The sticker and the Drivers Handbook both recommend 98 but say that use of 95 is okay.

As I understand it then you get at least the full rated output under a wide variety of atmospheric conditions. The engine will also run happily on 95 however you may not get the same output under the same wide range of operating conditions.

Generally the difference in price is about $0.10 per litre here in Australia between 98 and 95. I always run on 98 unless it is not available :)

There is a TSB concerning the quality of the GAS/PETROL. Looks like one must use "high test" as we call it in the states.

Apparently the use of low quality "off brand" types can cause issues!

TSB 2014815
states Rough idle, stumbling, noise, poor performance among others are symptoms...

Use the "good stuff"!

I would only ever use the good stuff... In the UK, that's primarily ESSO and Shell.... My issue was using 95 RON instead of 98 RON cos my filler cap said 95, whereas everyone else's seems to say 98 RON. I think the factory put the wrong sticker on mine!

My sister has a Touran with a 1.6 FSI in it and even she is supposed to use 98 RON! I have the 2.0 T-FSI...
