I was about to buy an audi convertible when I casually mentioned that I would love a convertible with a sunroof! The salesman informed me of the EOS (silly salesman) - I left the dealership and went to VW and test drove the EOS. It was love love love - I am going to pick up my White Lux later today. I have concerns about how much I agreed to pay - about $200 above invoice (who knew they go below?!) but did get 0% financing for 3 years. In addition I see the reviews in Edmunds and here about the engine and oil issues and water leaks from the roof.
I am wrestling with whether the concept of the convertible/sunroof hardtop joy is taking over my sensibilities!
Help!

Congratulations! I have never had any issues with water leaks or oil consumption on my Eos. I think most owners are the same. Enjoy!

We scored our Eos for a fair amount under Edmunds invoice, but that was back in the early spring before the weather warmed up and U.S. car sales stopped slumping so much because of the recession. Another thing in our favor was that my wife and I wanted a 6-speed, and local dealers had several on their lots gathering dust. Convertible sales traditionally spike in the summer (they've been flying off the lots here), so if you scored your Eos for $200 over invoice, with 0% financing, I wouldn't worry too much about the deal.

I also wouldn't worry too much about mechanical problems. Much of what you read about oil issues likely concerned the older FSI motor, which I'm sure isn't as bad overall as ardent posters make it out to be. Owners who aren't having oil burning problems don't post, in other words. The newer TSI motor (I'm assuming you're buying a 2009 Lux) has several improvements and seems to have a good reputation.

Same thing with the top - some folks have had persistant leaks and VW's been unable to properly fix them. Key thing here is that you may want to consider the VW extended warranty, to cover you after the skimpy 3 year/36K miles comprehensive factory warranty expires. The top is incredibly complicated, so just in case, we bought the VW Real Driver 7 year/70K miles extended warranty for around $1300 IIRC. You don't have to buy it right now; rest assured you'll get plenty of mailers about it!

I had a few bad thoughts before I bought. . .

Driving with the top down tonight for the first time made all of those thoughts go away. I agree that the people with the problems are the ones posting to different forums so you do not hear as much about the people who are happy with their EOS.

Welcome to the group. Life is too short for such concerns as roof leaks, oil consumption and nvoice pricing. As others have said, far more people don't bother to write about what a great car it is, they just enjoy owning it. I would highly recommend just that, enjoy it! Put the top down, foot on the accelerator and watch your worries fade away in the rear view mirror. BTW, no roof leaks, no oil consumption. Just miles of smiles.

I have had leak problems but bought mind second hand so think it was due to the previous owner not lubricating their seals often enough. As with any car, if you look after it, it will look after you!

Enjoy! :)

Indeed... YOu don't hear much from the happy people!

I LOVE MINE!
On a cold damp day (it WAS Wales!) we drove in to the mountains, top down, heating on, heated seats - it was AMAZING. It's the car to help you forget everything but where you are!

I don't usually care where I am at as long as I am in our Eos. I thought that was what having the Eos was all about......

Add Ons

I noticed that under add-ons, you listed Xenon bulbs. I am picking up my Eos tomorrow night. I was unable to get the car I wanted with that package and am wondering if I can just buy Xenon bulbs, or if the entire bulb assembly is different for Xenon bulbs. Also, if I am able to just change the bulbs, any info on cost of bulbs would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ranger, I plan on doing HID/Xenons on my Eos, you can buy the entire oem headlight housing will all the leveling and turning capabilities for over $2k. I am personally going to try an HID retro kit and see what the pattern looks like. Many people here will tell you not to just fit HIDs into stock projectors but I know tons of people who have and even more that have put them in regular reflector housings with no issues. The main thing is you first need to get a vag-com to program your DRLs to either your fogs or set your normal low beams to be 100% power when active as the DRL, this is my only hurdle right now, then I am going to order my kit.

That was what I was afraid of. Too bad I couldn't get this option to begin with, but they could only find one Eos in black with the cornsilk interior, so I'm out of luck. Thanks for the info. Perhaps I'll call the dealer to see if it can be done by them before I pick up the car -- the invoice price for that isn't anywhere near $2K, and I was lucky enough to get the invoice price less $1,000 on my deal. Maybe I'll get lucky again with this.
