Hi,
The arm fell off my sunglasses the other day and I'm now thinking about getting some polarised ones.

Has anybody got such a pair and are they ok for seeing the trip computer display and radio display in the Eos as I've read in some cars it makes reading the displays difficult/impossible?

Cheers,
Si

Hi there Si,

The best money Ive ever spent on sunglasses for driving - with proper tip top polarized lenses, are Ray Bans. Bought them about 2 yrs ago & I wear whenever I drive. They have a amber tinge to the lenses, all instrumentation in any vehicle I get into is crystal clear. The frames are light as a feather too.
Paid a bit of a premium for them, but I just love them!
They've been all over the world with me & would feel lost without them!

The 2nd best pair of driving & general glasses I have are Serengeti's - they are fantastic too. Lovely quality lenses with a smokey grey tint to the lenses. Perfect clarity whist driving, LED clarity from the likes of instrumentation aren't a problem, no distortion, excellent all round eye protection.
The frames are a tad heavier than the Ray Bans, but otherwise all top stuff!

:D

Don't know if they are sold "across the pond", but you might want to take a look at Maui Jim polarized sunglasses. They even have an anti-reflective coating on the inside of the lens, similar to what high end camera lenses use.

I agree with DaveyW, I have a pair of Serengeti's which I understand specialises in driving glasses. I simply could not live without them. You can see the info on the dash, no problems.

Tintin, where did you get your Serengeti's then, already have Ray Bans and Polaroid's but would be interested in what ever else is available (I seem to have started collecting sunglasses as opposed to shoes nowadays!!!!).

Halarious!!!!
My girlfriend paid an obscene, disgraceful price for a pair of brand name sunglasses whilst we were in Switzerland this year - I mean, these things are pretty damned good - but the price is absurd. Chan**el.
Wife of Skidoo - you would be most impressed! S

I really do like the lens quality of the Serengeti's & would strongly suggest that you have a peek on eBay for some reputable sellers for this brand. The lenses are really very good. It seems traditionally the frames are heavy, but offset by lens weight & quality.

We dont have Maui Jim in Aus, but the concept as SocalMan describes sounds great!

Hope this helps Skidoo 2!

Davey, yes i know what you mean about the Chanel's - already have a pair but don't like them cause when you put them on top of your head they catch in your hair and when you try to remove them you pull strands of hair out!!! Very attractive and so not cool !!!
As regards the Maui Jims have checked out their web site and we do have a retailer in Nottingham so I will go and have a look at them. Also if you check out their website, top right hand corner 'Retailer Locator' they show plenty of places in Sydney that sell them ! Maybe cheaper than buying in U.K. so may get some when we come over at Christmas. (www.mauijim.com/)

SoCalMan, have checked their web site and yes can get these in UK. Have a retailer in Nottingham so will check them out when I go in next time. Thanks

I seem to remember buying my pair of Serengeti's from Gatwick Airport in a duty free shop but I have a sneaky suspicion that the Sunglasses Hut used to do them. It might be worth checking if you have one near you. My frame is very light, you almost forget you have them on...

Skidoo, your welcome. :)
For those who don't know, Maui Jims are very expensive, but IMO, very worth it considering the outstanding quality of the lenses. In addition, the frames are typically light in weight and therefore very comfortable to wear. (I have no connection with the manufacturer.)

My wife recently had Lasik surgery from an Opthamologist who attracts patients from all over the world and he stresses the importance of polarized lenses. Glare is not a good thing for the eyes and its effects can show as you get older. Starting as a summer lifeguard, I have been wearing polarized lenses of one brand or another for over 40 years.
Plenty of good non-polarized sunglasses in the marketplace, just not for me.
P.S. Many of Maui Jims can be used as presription sunglasses!

SoCalMan, the Maui Jim's web site is really interesting and as I tend to wear Sunglasses even in winter on bright days, they would be worth the investment for me. Like you I have worn Polaroids for years, bought a new pair just this year at Gatwick airport which are at present my fav's. Will let you know if I get some Maui's

Thanks all for the tips - I'll check out the Maui Jims and Serengeti glasses.

Was thinking of going for Oakleys again as my current pair have been good over the last 3 years - except the arm falling off :)
