It's natural for those who have problems with a new car to voice their opinions, and for those who are happy tend to be quiet. That's one of the things I like about this forum (and the EOS) - the positives far outweigh the negatives.

So here are the problems I've experienced (so far) - have others experienced similar issues?

a) On pickup (a month ago) I noticed a scratch on the drivers window. replacement glass has been on order since, but the dealer is reporting 'production issues' with no date in sight
b) Faulty seatbelt sensor on the passenger seat setting off the seatbelt alarm (easy workaround - clip the belp in). Part on order expected next week
c) Faulty alarm (the neighbours don't appreciate a car alarm at 05:00!). Part on order expected next week
d) Whilst washing the car I've noticed what I thought was dirty water (bad weather in the UK recently) marks on the roof sidebars. However, they haven't come off with washing. I think they may be adhesive residue from where the seals are glued to the sidebar. Has anyone else come across anything like this?

I am REALLY pleased with the car, and whether I keep it for very long may depend on how the dealership deal with the issues, otherwise I might be asking for dealer recommendations in the UK West Midlands.

Hi Slarti,

Although not nice to have problems, the ones you have do seem to be minor and the fact that the dealer has ordered the parts means you are only a few short strokes away from a perfect car. Well apart from the residue. I would just ask the dealer to sort this while your car is in getting the other parts fitted.

On a side note, is there a bigger issue with the dealer as you don't seem happy with them?

Hi Steve,
Think I've got similar marks on mine. They are very fine lines, as though the wind is drawing out some adhesive or similar.
On the glass roof, I can rub to remove them. But they reappear later. On the painted arms that is not an option.
I'm here on hols for a couple of weeks so I'll pop into to my local VW & ask what to do. If I get an answer I'll let you know. My French dealer is a 100mile round trip from my base in Provence so havn't got around to asking them.
Had a great EDA yesterday driving to Uttoxeter from Marseille. She did 40.6 mpg at an average speed of 72 mph for 884 miles. What a car! I used to think my Discovery was ideal for long distances. Not anymore the EOS is a real mile muncher.:)

Happy EDAs,
Jim.

Don - I agree - the problems are minor & should be sorted soon - I'm certainly not letting them spoil my enjoyment of the car.

As far as the dealer is concerned, the salesman was very helpful, but as I haven't had any real success with the service department yet I reserve judgement. I've had really good service at my local Peugeot dealer for several years and have only left them for the EOS.

Sunshine & the roof down - AHHH!

Hi Steve,

Hopefully the service dept. will pull their socks up and in the mean time enjoy the ride.

That sounds like lubricant being wicked out of the seals by rain mixed with wind. You'll probably notice this more after the car is serviced, if your dealer includes seal maintenance with their service regiment.

I've found that the VW lubricant oil streaks on the paint and glass around the seals. If rubbed with fingers, it smears rather than comes off unless it is rubbed hard for a while. I wouldn't suggest doing this with the car, because you'll scratch the paint. :)

Washing the car with proper car wash soap removes most of the residue without effort, however, there is still a little where the windows contact the seals.

This issue goes away after a couple of washes, since the seals absorb the oil they need to keep lubricated and the rest gets washed away. I'm doing my own lubrication and just do it a little more frequently and use a little less oil. This has really helped keep smudging to a minimum.

You might want to check what the dealership used to lubricate the seals, because, I've heard some dealers near the beginning of the Eos introduction were recommending "vaseline" or other such products (which are not good for the seals).

I've rambled on enough... sorry for the wall of text. :)

Update
Dealer has sorted alarm & seatbelt sensor. Looking at paintwork
Biggest deal is with the door glass - I'm told there are no door glasses in the Uk and that VW have supply problems. If this is the case then we'd better hope no-one smashes a window!

I've had the same marks on mine. Just use a bit of polish after washing and they come off easily. It must be something to do with the lubricant on the seals
