I am still having issues with leaks in my January 07 Eos T-FSI. I'll post separately as to what is happening on that front but meantime I'd be keen to know if the issue has been resolved on later cars.

I saw a post recently which indicated that revised seals were fitted to cars entering the UK after March 07. Are there any owners out there with post-March cars who have experienced leaks ? Equally happy to hear from those of you who have post-March cars and no leaks.

Thanks

Leaks aren't very common.... Where is the water from the leaks inside the car?

I would be very interested in seeing some pre march 2007 seals!

It is probably that your seals need cleaning and lubricating...

Hi Simon,

The water is coming in onto the ledges on both sides and it has been at the dealer for 6 weeks having new o/s seals fitted. It has been lubricated twice by the dealer and again before I got it back a couple of weeks ago.

I didn't want to bore you all with the details but yesterday I had a vehcile examiner (independent) watch me hose the car and he identified leaks on both sides where the rear seal ie across the back edge of the roof meets the seals running up from the boot lid. I await his report (should have by Tuesday) before deciding if I should reject.

The reason for the poll is that I really want to order another one but won't if the leaks are continuing. I hope I get loads of "no leak" responses !!

Have a good weekend all.

Hi,

There is no fundamental leak problem with the EOS..... The newer seals are very good and, if well maintained, will never leak when it rains... Obviously if you go at them with a pressure washer, they will let a little through, but that's perfectly normal.... Just stand further away with a pressure washer...

I would be interested to see photos of the seals you mean, perhaps with some arrows pointing to the area of apparent water ingress...

I wouldn't hesitate to get another EOS if it was me in this situation...

Hi Simon

It was always made clear that pressure washers should not be aimed directly at seals. The ingress on my Eos has been with use of a standard garden hose. Glad to hear the newer seals are performing well - in my case my (uneducated) guess is that the new seals retrofitted to mine are not as effective as new seals fitted at the factory "from the ground up" as it were.

Sorry I've never mastered photobucket etc so can't post photos at moment - will happily do so at some point.

Cheers

P

EOS from the States here; Bought my EOS in June '07 and only get slight (a drop or two) of leaks when proceeding through automated (high pressure) car wash. I have never had any leaking during rain storms, regardless of how hard it has rained.

Had mine for just under 6 months now - in the pouring rain and jet washed (albeit not directly shooting the jet full power at the seals) with no leaks whatsoever (touch wood)

No leaks here so far. Just other things. Car is at dealer now waiting a part that is on National Back Order. At least I have a free loaner. Sadly it is not a VW.

Hi all,

I have now heard from my dealer that they have been advised that I have a good case for rejection of my Eos (I was confident of that all along but it's nice to have them roll over so quickly) and they will refund my money in full.

That of course takes me to the next stage - what do I do now ? I really want an Eos - nothing else ticks all the boxes it does - but colleagues and friends have said I'd be mad (or words to that effect) to order another one.

I'm encouraged by those who have posted - thanks for doing that - confirming no leaks and will give it some thought.

Peter -- if these forums are any indication, the precentage of Eoses with irreversible problems is very small, the percentage of Eoses with highly annoying repairable leak issues is larger, but certainly still not the majority of people who post here. VW addressed a lot of issues since your car was new. Owner's of 2008's with complaints seem isolated at best. I think it's a pretty big deal for a car company to take back a vehicle at full refund -- in my estimation, give VW another try.

Sure, easy for me to say, I've only had my '08 for 2 weeks -- not very long to test for problems, but so far so good. We even had heavy rain here last week end -- no leaks. The car practically drives itself -- mechanically it is a dream machine!

Go for the Eos!

Hi Peter, I have had my EOS 4 mths. Even though I live in Queensland Australia, when it rains, boy, does it rain and I have had no leak problems.
The fact that your dealer has given you a full refund is amazing, what other car companies would offer that? My husband has worked withsome of the very large prestigious car companies in the U.K and can't fault the EOS. I'd give it another try if I was you, as you will probably regret buying something else that more expensive and not so good

No leaks after a month...

Although I realize a month is not a long time to test for leaks, so far I've had none on my '08 Lux. I'm kind of leery about sending it through a car wash after reading all the leak problems on this forum.

I traded in a Mustang convertible which I had for 11 years. During that entire period, the Mustang ALWAYS got a hand wash because I didn't want the car wash rollers beating on the top. I feel the same way about my Eos, so probably will hand wash only.

I realize that a lot of people don't have a good spot to do the hand wash and the auto car wash is either their only bet or only good one. Seeing reports here from other owners who do use car washes (fairly high pressure) without problem certainly makes me think about trying this method. Especially in the winter when the weather can be really nasty.

The only thing I don't like about my Eos is that the dealer has my used Mustang up for sale for $5000 more than he allowed me on my trade-in. I guess I should have hung on to it for a private sale, but whether I could have come close to what he's trying to sell it for is the BIG QUESTION.

I agree that I am fortunate to get a refund but then legally I knew I was on strong ground - I don't think the dealer would have given me my money back had I not sent a formal demand (prepared by my litigation lawyer brother!!) referring to the Sale of Goods Act !! My initial discussions during the repair process never got further than the offer of a good trade in for mine against a new one.

I take on board the comments about the percentage of Eos affected by leak problems - I'd just hate to be unlucky again and my friends and family think I'm crazy even to contemplate ordering another one. I would like to have some details (if anyone has a mole at VW!!) of what exactly has been done to address the leak issues but I guess that's a forlorn hope.

As far as washing the car goes, I would never go near the roof seals with a pressure washer (only for wheels (but not tyres!) and lower bodywork) - the disappointing thing was that mine leaked when I used a normal garden hose for rinsing. I don't think I'd use an auto car wash on any car for the damage it would do to paintwork - check out detailing world forum for more !! Strictly hand wash only with a good quality washmitt, a proper drying towel and some quick detailer for drying. I also think you could expect leaks if you used an auto wash - does the manual not specifically say not to use them ?

Once we have the cheque in our account, I'll have a serious think about what to do next. I am encouraged tho' by the fact that no owners of later 07 (ie delivered after May or thereabouts 2007) models have so far posted up about leak issues and a small number (you guys!) have confirmed no issue so far.

Thanks

Peter

Sorry about the rain Tinkerbell, but you are in Northampton! Still once we get some cold crisp bright days you will be able to wack up the heating, put the bum warmers on and 'go topless' if you'll excuse the expression ! Safe Happy driving.

Well the car was collected on Friday afternoon and the cheque is in the bank. I'm looking around for quotes from brokers for a replacement Eos before I ask my local dealer (who took the car back) what he can do.

My 14 year old son won't speak to me if we don't re-order the Eos with identical spec etc - "Eos or nothing" were his words !!

Will keep you all posted.
